With fucking 125's?

I know not everyone can afford, or is able to have for age or licence or for whatever reasons big, fast, powerful bikes. Also some people want cheap transport. I'm not talking about these people.

I'm talking about the people who seem to think that shitty 4 stroke 125's are great and that touring the galaxy on one is oh so cool. Where does this warped thinking come from? They are, without a shadow of a doubt, slow, miserable creations that have more in common with a slow bus than a motorcycle.

I am middle aged and by definition should probably be giving lectures about how speed isn't everything and how it's better to arrive late than to not arrive etc... Why, then do I find this obsession with going pitifully slow on pitiful machinery offensive?

Motorbikes are supposed to be powerful, Motorbikes are supposed to be fast, People that ride motorbikes are supposed to want even faster ones.

I've heard all the talk about how you see more when travelling on a 125. Bollocks, WTF do you see apart from every other road users exhaust pipe as they squash you into the verge? More fun on twisty roads! What twisty roads would that be? Yellow brick road maybe, because I know of no road I've ever ridden in over 35 years that would be more fun on a 4 stroke 125 than on any other larger bike. Why would you choose to cross the Alps on a 125 if you could do it on a sports bike or a touring bike? It's perverse!

It's like a disease that's spreading and has to be stopped! Is it all part of the government plan? - make it so hard for people to get a licence, deny them the jobs to be able to afford to buy a decent bike when they eventually do get a licence. Does anyone have the answer?

All of these poor people out there thinking, in their ignorance that they are actually happy. It's so very sad, no hope, no ambition, no expectation Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad .

If you are one of these people please, please seek help. It may not be too late for you Laughing Wink

The above is an observation based on what I read mainly on this forum. The actual reality is a lot different. Sure we see small bikes on the road and people do indeed tour on them but the proportion of bike riders doing so is tiny. Also I, for the life of me can't remember the last time I got passed on a twisty by a guy on a 125. Then again, at my age maybe the mind is going Wink.

I'm a racing driver, have a license to prove it and everything. I have 2 vehicles that can outperform nearly everything on the road (and especially on a track).

I also drive a classic fiat 500 that has similar power to a 125 and have a 700cc car.

Speed is not what it's all about all of the time. Have fun, relax and life's good. There are few driving experiences as fun as my fiat 500 even though it will barely reach 100kph... I open the roof, look at the scenery and take time to wave at the pretty girls.

They're great for getting to grips with motorcycling, they're cheap on insurance, they have great mileage whilst allowing you to filter through traffic...

I'm so glad I had 2x 125's (from brand new) before getting the 600 - given me real valuable experience, and I'll probably buy one again in the future for small trips to the shops etc.

Every time I ride my friend's NSR 125 it puts a smile on my face...

(I normally ride a 750).

I guess that's not quite the same as a CG 125 though. It's fun to overtake and surprise other road users with it.

Insurance is a bitch. But I only travel max 8 miles each way within london, max speed i can go legally on the roads I use is 40mph. So riding on an 125cc is not too bad for me as i spend most of my time filtering. Also petrol = pea nuts when your riding a 125cc.

Hey each to thier own Thumbs Up

I went round East Anglia on a 125 for no other reason than Because I can Smile
I have a ZX6r sitting in the garage and I ride that when I want to Thumbs Up
What is so wrong about wanting to use a 125?
You like your super-fast light-speed 100000bhp rocketship and that`s cool Thumbs Up

Could it be that if you get somewhere (far away) with a 125, it`s an acomplishment.
I went to Scotchland twice on a 250 last year and was pleased that I could do it on a 250 and how me and the bike coped.
I could of easily done it on the ZX6r and it would of been just to easy and there would of been no challenge.

viva la differance Thumbs Up

Unless I lived and worked entirely in London and had to watch the cash, I couldn't think of any other reason I'd own a 125 road bike.

true. just like no man over 18 will choose non-alcoholic beer, and no man that has kunt available will choose to wank. unless he cant afford kunt or cant get it up.

a man will always choose the ride he wants. and it wont be the virgin 125, unless he cant do better

I think its a funny attitude that suggests people who ride slower, less powerful bikes are missing the point of biking or are somehow 'lesser bikers'/'not real men' to put it another way.
If someone enjoys riding a 125cc bike then fair play to them, if you're actually content with the bike you ride whatever the size then that's hardly a bad thing.
I did many many miles on my MZ 125 and the same on 250s, can't say I didn't enjoy riding them as lacking as they might have been power-wise ragging small capacity 2-strokes along can be very enjoyable.
Its notable that this attitude is pretty much absent in car circles, when was the last time you heard someone tell another driver his car was too small!? Smacks of immaturity really...

It's a bit weird but I accept some people spend most of their time commuting in heavy traffic. When people spend £2K+ I scratch my head though, like those cbr125s and yzf chav things.

I guess it's not knowing much and being convinced by a dealer to enter finance. I think had I walked into a showroom without reading about bikes and knowing I wanted an old two-stroke, it would have been hard to resist the shiny new appeal of a CBR/YZF/etc...

well if I had to choose between a 125 and wanking, I would rather wank. more pleasure and my hand can move faster.

but I can work so can afford a proper woman and a better bike, so why bother with this kid's stuff?

I think a lot of it has to do with them not experiencing a bigger bike, those who have bigger bikes can ride a 125 and think yeah its fun for something different but if you had to ride it all the time you'd think it was a POS and boring.

This IT nerd rides an FZ1 Fazer.

This IT nerd's missus had a 125 when she was learning and this IT nerd enjoyed riding it; it was chuckable and you could full-throttle wherever you wanted, kind of like riding a toy bike - bit of a laugh really. But this IT nerd perfers his 1-litre fun-machine. Your point being?
