i just came out of my house and headed for the country lanes to get to my mates house
when i got into the lanes my back end suddenly shot out and was going nuts, i braked and recovered, but before i could go , ahhhh
it did it again on another sheet on ice this time doing a 180 spin but i dropped the bike and it landed on my leg
no damage to the bike just a bruise for me

i would like to thank the 30 cars that DIDNT help and just sat there in their warm cars while my leg was trapped under my bike with a full tank of fuel

Glad your not badly hurt, you should try stick to main roads when travelling in these conditions as they are more likely to have been salted and less icy then the country roads, if there unavoidable then ride with both feet on the floor Laughing

i did something like that on my moped was doing about 10 mph hour around this bend opened the throttle up and before i knew it the back wheel was out of control tried to hold on to the bike, but couldnt, so i skided into a grave stone, and broke it, the bike missed me by inches. just goes to show u could be going 10mph or 230mph you can still crash.....

I almost did the same a few years back, Riding down this big 1 mile straight at about 20MPH and the backend just went (I had just looked at the ground and noticed the reflection), Done a 180 spin by pure luck I didnt crash and kept it upright, Had to do a mini burnout to get me around Smile then continued riding by hugging the side of the road on the grass. Took me 45mins to do about 2miles, Even a tractor almost wiped out, Last part was a slight hill with a corner, Went down it skiing, had to use engine braking and luck. Couldnt make around the corner but a nice car had gone and left a non frozen/snow covered part so I parked there and walked home.

Never again.

Glad you're relatively OK. I just about dropped the bike this morning at about 2mph. Not nice. I suspect you were going a bit faster though. I'll be watching out for ice from now on too, bloody cold tonight!

Unlucky wave mate. My back end has been all over the place today, it's slipped out about 5 times from me but i've been lucky and managed to keep it upright.

I remember driving to and from work last year on my gsxr, feet down at some points on the country lanes!

At least you had less fairings on the bike to damage after the other sunday Razz

Ah - tis the season to be jolly so they say! Wink Well, maybe not for us. I'm actually quite disgusted at the lack of help you received upon your incident and i'm also opposed to the attititudes that car drivers have on us bikers. Ride slowly especially at night and in the early mornings - it's quite surprising how low daytime temperatures are at these days of the year. Ice can accumilate very easily on the road, not to mention getting hit by the grit whilst following behind a gritting truck! Evil or Very Mad Anyway, i hope your bruises heal soon. Well, at least you've experienced it now then.

my leg was stuck under my bike and like no one was helping just sitting there in there cars waiting for me to move.

its really a 2 way mirror as in if they crash they expect people to stop and help.

i have stopped a handful of times to crashes my help was not needed but they were glad i pulled over

i could have been knocked out/stopped breathing, how long till someone noticed ? makes me wonder

When I came off on Thursday an old bloke stopped about half a second later..(swerved his car up the opposite pavement and jumped out!!)...and seemed very concerned.

We need more good people like that.

He wasn't going to leave me....I swore to him I was okay but he was very upset,...I had to ride off in the end !

Car drivers (who have never ridden a bike) ARE very blase about bikes...they think we can stop on a sixpence, even when doing 50/60mph...and we don't need a lot of room on the road.
A lot of drivers have a 'them' and 'us' mind set I think.

Wave mate, it isn't car drivers, its just the sorry state of society nowadays. I think there was a news story recently, didn't someone lie flat out on the pavement and no one offered any help?

About this time last year on the MT50 I was turning down a driveway in a back road, no more than 15mph and hit the ice. The bike slid from under me, but thankfully the way it landed, the clutch was pushed in. There was a car behind so I was up as quick as I could and just let the clutch out. Mr. Green

This is my first winter and so far (touchwood) I haven't encountered any ice, problem is to get to my girlfriends place I need to take some hilly country lanes which are very twisty.

Last night was frigging cold out there and it started to rain, at the fear of ice forming on the roads my girlfriend let me stay over. I say I won. Razz

Lol. It's like you crash a clip a car and go down. You jump back up and see it's a fit young 20 yr old and down you go again-rolling around in pain. Laughing

Yeah this is goning to be my first winter too. I have not approached ice yet however i've had my back wheel slide out on a drain cover a couple of times. Luckily i held it. Thumbs Up

However where i work, here was some fly-tipping in the entrance to the carpark on a sharp turn. It was cleared the next day but left a thin muddy layer ontop of the tarmak. I was only doing about 5-10 mph around it and my back wheel slipped and the bike fell. Luckily no damage ot brusies but even thought it was only a minor thing, i'm definatly more cautious on the road.

Well quite frankly I am just scared on my bike this time of year. I was actually following a 30MPH speed limit on a main road today, just because I didn't want to fall. Laughing

Like my CBT instructor said just ride at a speed you feel safe at, don't try and keep up with traffic if you cannot handle it.

I also need to make sure I pump up my tyres tomorrow I have next to nothing control over bumps right now.
