...to pick up a bike? I could get lifts etc, but I was looking at alternatives.
So I was looking at train fares for the potential need to use public transport to go and collect a new bike from long distances away, knowing that you're gonna be using motorways on the way back and needing the protection of proper gear, leathers etc.
Then it hit me that you'd look a bit of a twat climbing on a train in full leathers or using the underground if you had to change trains in that London.
What's the alternative? Wear jeans, boots and jacket and have your leathers bottoms in a rucksack to change into when you get there and just carry your lid? What about if all you've got is a 1 piece?
How far would you go or have you been on public transport in bike gear? ____________________ Responsibility. It's a difficult reality for some. I'm running the 2014 Sheffield Half Marathon on behalf of Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice. Please sponsor me, even if it's just a quid.

I went from Cambridge down to Hemel Hempstead to pick my bike up, in full leathers with helmet on the train, haveing to change at king's cross i think got some funny looks but hey. think it took me about an hour or so but wasn't too bad! I went down to look at it with a mate in the car which was much easier though... ____________________ Past: '07 YBR125, '00 GPZ500S, '99 ZRX1100, '98 CBR600 track bike, '97 ZX9R

My GPZ came from Grimsby, my GSXR came from Bridlington, my TZR from Durham, only my CB125 and my CBR600 came from Leeds.
Took me three hours to get back from Durham on the TZR down the A1, it was bloody freezing, kept stopping to warm up in my dad's car.
I rode the GSXR from Bridlington, it was the only sunny day that week .
Also I rode a friend's Chinese 125 from Leicester. That was an experience (not to be repeated). Racing with HGVs was the only bit of fun I could have to distract me. Head behind the screen, I'd beat them by about 1mph. If I sat up, they'd overtake me.
In short, if the deal was good enough, I'd go around 200 miles ish. ____________________ Current: Yamaha FZ1 '07 | GSXR 750 SRAD

I rode my CG125 from it's home near Cardiff to Crewe using the A-Roads, it was a good 150 miles with approx 4 hours of riding not including stops. It was bloody fun though despite having the sum total of 0 hours on the bike since my CBT the month before ____________________ Honda CB500s (1999) - Honda CG 125 BR-J (1991)

I agree, who cares what you look like. I travelled down from Stoke to Sothwick (just outside Brighton) on the train in full kit to collect my bike (230 miles-ish), and it pissed down on me all the way back But, if you want it - just go get it ____________________ Current bike: FJR1300

I made the trip to collect my Hyosung into a pleasant experiance?.
I live in Ipswich and the bike was in Preston!
Went up there the day before on the coach, Had a steak supper with a couple of beers and a night in a hotel (cheapish).
Got up the next day and rode home.
Just a shame it was soooo cold but I was still grinning as I was on my new toy .
There is nowhere in the country I would`nt go for the right bike. ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

I went 300 miles on a bus to get my Zed, although it was the height of summer, so just a jacket and helmet; got a few curious looks, but who cares. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........
