I have now become a full time carer for my wife who has had a stroke. I am a biker with a Kawasaki Cruiser. I am looking to chat or meet bikers in similar circumstances who would like to go out for weekday afternoon runs. My location is Leicster.

Do people have to be a full time carer to go for a ride with you?

Maybe he was thinking that chatting with people in a similar situation who also have the same hobbies would be good for him. Being a full time carer for a loved one is extremely difficult mentally and physically.

Im sure that he would enjoy riding out with other bikers in general.

Sorry to hear about your wife.

You'd probably be better off posting in the appropriate Regional section. Dear Auntie BCF is more for the entertainment of the unwashed masses than actual heart-to-hearts.

It's not abusive, just your usual brand of drivel. I can see how people who don't know enough to ignore you might find it confrontational though Very Happy

@OP - Probably best to introduce yourself with a bit more flair and get to know people, as others have said there's a regional forum that's probably better for looking for people to ride with. There are quite a few decent folk on here, even Cansa can be alright when he's not trying to shock and be clever Wink

That's the risk you run with the typed word.

That's why smileys were introduced, to attempt to convey the tone in which something was intended.

Your post reads very bluntly, and the use of 'fucking about' suggests that you don't think there's any value in the OP getting a break.

Most people would also question what business it is of yours anyway.

have a look at the regional section for meets. Also google motorcycle clubs in your area.

Happy biking.

@Cansa - It sort of did come across a bit like, "oh you need to look after your wife, unlucky, tough shit, go and do it, you're not cool enough because you have a strange burden that nobody else has." It was just a little brash toward the poor guy.

@Alpha - 'Destrier' Laughing Maybe it's his surname? I read it in French - something like 'destree'eh'?

OP: Hopefully the missus will be ok.

Really interesting video here - Harvard neurological researcher describes her first-hand experience of a stroke - clicky

You can get people to come and sit with the person you care for to give the carer a little respite.

Destrier54 i'm in the same position as you,its nice to have a break,i felt guilty going out by myself,so i got my wife to ride pilion for short little rides,we go to the scotch piper a local bike meet its only a ten mile round trip she takes extra pain killers and she really enjoys the couple of hours out.

Not everyone is as thick as you.

destrier [ˈdɛstrɪə]
n
(Military) an archaic word for warhorse [1]

It gets worse later in the video. She starts to sound like her stroke experience made her reach the upper echelons of 'hippy'. She almost starts crying about how magical the experience was at one point, and it was then that I skipped through to the end of the video to see what the end moral of her story was Laughing . Gotta give her some credit though, she bounced back from massive stroke.

Hi Destrier.

I have a mate who is full time carer for his wife who has Multiple Sclerosis. I saw him a few weeks back after not having seen him out for YEARS, and it was great to see him out and about and relaxing. I felt selfish cos I wanted him to say, but he said he had to go home early cos of his wife was waiting for him to get back.

So hopefully you can get out a bit and have some "you" time too and maybe catch up with some of the nicer peeps on this forum, cos from time to time, believe it or not, *most of us* can be quite a nice bunch Smile

(and don't take any notice of the "cruisers are for fags" mentality of many people on here, either) ... some people think it, but if there was no other bike available, and it was a choice between walking home 150 miles or riding a cruiser, I'm pretty sure almost all the people here would ride a fuckin cruiser Laughing
