honda vfr 800 alternatives

Looking for bikes similar to the looks and function of the vfr 800 vtec preferibly with a bit more power for circa 4000 pounds.

I like the looks of the vfr 800 but would prefer something with a bit more power with decent mpg?

was actually looking at a 954, but put off by insurance and fuel economy?

Triumph sprint st 1050 is your only upgrade.

Shouldn't cost a massive amount to adapt the riding position - weather that's enough is another matter.

If you don't mind sacrificing some power/sportiness and prefer better fuel economy, I'd seriously consider a F800s. Can get one for around £2500 or so - always fancied one as I quite enjoyed the TRX.
People saying they get over 60mpg from them.

954 is a great bike, but if you want fit hard luggage and carry your misses to Spain .....

So with the best will in the world it doesn't have the same function.

If you want a bike that does any one thing that a vfr does there are loads of better bikes, if you want something that specialises in what the vfr does, which is "everything very well but nothing brilliantly" - and is a bit quicker, then I maintain a sprint st 1050 is your only upgrade.

I was in a similar situation as I wanted something for distance but couldn't bring myself to own a vfr. As G said, F800 is worth a shout but I seem to remember the early ones had grenade engines.

In the end I bought an ST4 for half your budget, with full luggage.


Edit, I've also had a zx9r and while this would be fine solo, no good for two up work really. This may not be in your criteria though, it was in mine.

Just as alternative's but quite a step up in weight and power, and maybe a bit less nimble, I've known of 2people go from a VFR800 to a Blackbird or a ZZR1200. The guy who had the Blackbird was so happy with it, and now he has a ZZR1400, but it's not a massive all round improvement over the Blackbird, so he tells me.

CBR1100XX good for distance, great for comfortable position if you dont have a bad back already, and 168 mph+ without much effort
Not bad to insure 42 mpg really comfy for a pillion ie not perched up high with knees under the chin... .... what else do you want your bike to be able to do ?

It's a BMW R1200S.

Before the S1000RR it was the sportiest that BMW could manage.
They even had a race series, which probably dug more out of the tarmac of race tracks than the combined crashes from all the other classes combined!

That was the 1100s rather than 1200 that followed, the 1100 was generally considered the better of the two, less powerful but a nicer engine.

You can get full hard luggage for them if you want.

Edit: also the one I posted was the boxer cup replica version, I think slightly higher specs as standard, you pay a premium though.
