So, I was planning to do the Mongol rally this year, but family problems have come up. So me and 3 friends have planned a charity moped run. We are going from portsmouth up to Scotland.
We are going in two groups.
The rules
You have to ride two up the whole way.
It has to be a 50cc moped and can't spend no more then £500 or it.
We're allowed £200 pounds for mods, this includes changing the cc via a new barrel but not allowed to change the complete engine.
There are planned stops for the night in b&bs. The first group to get there stay in the b&bs the others have to camp.
Once we get to Scotland we are selling the mopeds and donating the money.
The charity is the diabetic uk.
So if anyone has any suggestions on what ped? I'm sure it be a 4stroke but not sure what one, and any thoughts on mods?
Cheers

Honda C50,

if it's possible to ride home from the far east on one then I'm sure it'll cope with what you have in mind!

Why a 4 stroke?
2 stroke seems to make more sense.
Then I'd probably leave as stock if you've got a half-decent one.
Add some thing to hold luggage, maybe.

If you're allowed a gear bike, what about looking for a ratty rs50 or similar? Should give you a good chance of getting the B&B if that's what you want.

I'm leaning more towards 4 stroke, as I didn't think a two stroke would last carrying a weight of about 25 stone and sitting be revving its nuts off for 5/6 hours a day.
We're not allowed geared bikes.

C50 is out then - 3 gears.

Remember a 2 stroke maybe at about half it's potential compared to a 2 stroke going the same speed.
Especially if you've got 25 stone (maybe some of that money should be spent at the gym Wink ) to shift, it's going to be flat out all the time and serious struggling. To achieve the same speed, the 2 stroke won't be using all it's potential, as it's designed to do more.

I'm not 25 stone lol, we're going two up. We're doing 3 hour runs then swapping so one person don't do all the ridding.

I'd go with an FS1e, they are quick for a 50 and can take 2 up easy!

Good luck getting one for £500 with out it being a shed.

Edit = No gears how gay.

Shame your profile puts you on the south coast many miles from me.
There's a Honda x8r (aka SZX) in Jordan racing colours going begging at mine. It's *cough* a modified 50cc *cough.*.

Best of luck Thumbs Up

Cheers for the offer mate, we have been given a pug v-clic ped by a local garage. So if we can't find a decent bike, we have got something to fall back on.
