I got a quote for A2 training and test yesterday.

£668 :@

Any cheaper alternatives you guys can think of? Sad

Might just do my 125 licence to lose the "L's"

First step is to phone round a few other places and then start haggling. Won't save hundreds but I recon you could get a little bit off!

Yer shop around ive heard of prices low as 400 but that was before the changes and expense of upgrading their bikes etc.

Where are you based?

Price can depend on location, lots of demand to do bike tests in large cities down south so pushes prices up a bit, up north, not so much demand.

My local place in Bolton / Bury (they're opening a second site) isn't very busy at the moment so could be able to put you through it quickly

Suprisingly enough that was with a school in Croydon.
It just don't seem right nearly £700 for a licence, its cheaper to do my cage licence.

This, there are often half price deals where I live live (East Anglia), so around £300. Could work out alot cheaper traveling somewhere else in the UK, with a hotel booked aswell.

If you are old enough I see little logic in restricting yourself to A2

The Direct access is exactly the same test and cost, just on a different bike.

What company in Croydon did you get a quote? I took my training with Motag in Crystal Palace. Good price when I took it and top notch blokes. Give them a call if you haven't already. Thumbs Up

I did a days training and mod 1 for £130
Then did another days training and booked mod 2 for £130

£260 total
Not bad, but I didn't go for a full course of training

I did then think wait, i'm 23 this year, then 24 next year, meaning I could have waited and just gone the fully unrestricted route, but now i'd have to do my tests again if I wanted to do that, derp

I paid around £580 for DAS I think with Camrider Chester, they normally have offers in spring so have a looksy and see if theirs a Camrider near you

I spoke to phoenix motorcycle training, they seemed reasonably priced (when the 33bhp test was in) I am just not really happy paying £700 to do 2 tests worth £90.50

It seems a joke, I am not dead yet therefore I can ride a bike Rolling Eyes

I was jyst looking at their site, as a seemed to remember that they were doing some good deals when I was lokking for a riding school. Looks like they have spring deals til the end of March. Hendon looks closest to OP if he's from London.

Similar price at my place (Focus Rider Training)


The cost adds up quickly with insurance, fuel and use of bike (covering consumables and wear and tear)

You're out training as practice for at least half a day, you're also under tuition to and from the test centre so it's quite easy to take a full day over Mod 1 which only takes 15 mins to do the actual test!

I know Focus do a half hour assessment to get an idea of your bike handling skills before saying if they think you'll need, 2, 3 or 4 days training (including tests)

Some people need less time than others. I took two days, but was doing it on my own bike that I'd had for 6 months by then, so very familiar with it's handling. Other people have never ridden more than a CG125 and need time to adapt to a bigger bike.

The on road training can be done by yourself really. Practice good road craft every day, never forget your life savers and look up videos on YouTube. The mod 1 part could be done in a day really. It's really a very easy test. You could probably get away with doing a one day course for the mod 1.
It really boils down to how confident you are in yourself. Smile

What size bike do you need to get restricted?

Might be able to sort a bike out, you state Croydon so a day in Maidstone isn't too far out of reach. Thumbs Up

Absolutely, everything is so much smoother when you do it right and take your time

I got a bollocking a couple of times which kept me in check
My problem is rushing and being erratic, and being absolutely shit at following directions and signs. I literally take a deep breathe and calm myself down as I can get quite worked up, worked well for my mod 1 when I was nearly shitting it Thumbs Up

Was on an ER-5 which is a piece of piss to ride albeit somewhat boring in the low revs, fun on the fast roads though Razz


Speak to the training school, with my I had already been on the 125 for a year so asked them if I could just do a day to see how I get on then book the tests, that way if I do shit on the training day if I need more training i'd do that instead, but the instructor said I was pretty much ready for the mod 1 so just went for it.

What was REALLY good was going onto the actual mod 1 test site and practicing all the manuevres without being on test, I doubt i'd have passed it first time else
Mod 2 got rearranged as the testers were on strike Crying or Very sad

Get a bike and DIY it.

It's possible to do it all legally. You need to find the right insurer, plus a way to get it to and from the tests. L plates, "proof" of restriction if it's over 35kW as stock, hi-vis for luck, smash it in.
