What usually happens if you fail the mod1? do you get charged for the mod2 ect?

I've sent a few emails out but not had a reply back yet so just curious...


I'm back in the UK on sunday and I'd like to get my motorbike test out the way... CBT and theory is done and I've had 2 hours on a 650 which felt quite natural...

Just concerned about spanking £500 on a Mod1/2 residential course and not getting my monies worth.

My closest test centre is blackburn due to mod1 test location so I'll be looking to do it in that area or carlisle area if anyone has residential or school recommendations.

If it's through a school and you fail the mod 1 I imagine they will just rebook the mod 2 for a later date, they can move around their slots without too much rebuttal from DSA

I doubt they'd book them both at once anyway unless they were really confident you'll pass mod 1, more likely you'll pass mod 1, then they'll book mod 2 in, depending on availability

My mod 2 was cancelled thanks to the instructor going on strike... they have rearranged it for another day so no losses

I did one of these which included both tests but failed the mod 1. Still had to pay full whack tho, no reimbursement of test fee so make sure you find out first.

If you cancel within 3 working days you lose your test fee. So unless you are confident you'll pass the Mod1, I wouldn't risk it.

Yes and just make sure they are not on strike on that day....mine were! Rolling Eyes Never even notified the training school of the fact! Evil or Very Mad

So if you'd failed your mod 1, it wouldn't matter because the mod 2 has no named rider. The school can then use the slot for another rider who failed first time round or another student that's only done mod 1.

That's the way my school did it with me.I didn't have to pay for extra training either,just my test fee after that.Although I was tied to when he could fit me in and was reliant on others failing their tests.

Mine were booked for the same morning one after the other. Luckily I Passed them both but had I failed my mod 1 then yeah I would have lost my fee for the mod 2.

I wish I had staggered the tests now as you not only lose the test fee but essentially the cost of an afternoon training prior to the test.

Depends on your course, some schools provide 2 part DAS course - separate mod1 and mod2 training and you pay separately, say £250 for mod1 and £250 for mod2, this way if you fail mod1 you can try it again without losing £85 pounds for mod2 exam. Mod1 exam price is just £15.

I went with Phoenix Portsmouth a long time ago.

They were happy to split the course into two.

Did 2 days training including CBT, with Mod 1 test next morning.

Then 2 days mod training the following week, test next morning.

Defeinitely go this route if you can, it allows you space and the chance to re-book mod 2 if needed.

I passed my Mod1 last week but did not book the Mod2 until we got back to the bike shop following the test. It was the same cost whether booking both together or separately.

Mod2 is this Wednesday. Smile

The school I did my DAS with, 1st Castle in Portsmouth, do a pass guarantee scheme for DAS booked for 3 or more days. They advised not doing a back-to-back Mod1/Mod2 and advised leaving the three working days between. Made perfect sense to me.
