Just looking some opinions on this.

I have just recieved the oxford heated grips that I recieved free with mu subscription to ride. What I have recieved is the grips that are designed for scooter with smaller batteries than my bandit. I think it states up to 250cc, they only have high or low settings and might even be a bit small.

I'm wondering (assuming they fit) whether I should fit them, or sell as new and get the better ones for real bikes Smile

Get the proper bike set, they may not fit the bars if diamate or length is different, voltage should be the same, 12v? unless its a 6v batterry on a scooter?

The amps is what you should be looking at; I don't think many (any?) modern scooters use 6v. The Oxford sportsbike hot grips are 5 amps IIRC; I fitted them to my GF's SH300 scooter just fine (the SH300 has an accessory plug rated for 10A so plenty of power for them). I would anticipate that the grips are the correct diameter for your handlebars (i.e. 7/8ths of an inch or 22mm - the SH300 at least is the same too).

If they are the same "light" Oxford grips I see on searches online, the ones you have draw about 3A, so at their hottest, they'll be about half as hot.

But bear in mind that grips on their own aren't really enough for long trips in cold weather. You'll want either heated gloves (the Gerbings don't have heated palms AFAIK, the grips would heat this bit) or muffs to stop the outside of your hands / fingers from getting cold. Without muffs etc., I've found big bike grips on their hottest setting to be uncomfortably hot, even while the outside of my hand is cold. About 60% (i.e. 3A out of a 5A draw, or the max setting on your grips) is "just right". But the hottest setting is useful for heating up sooner.

TL;DR: I'd probably fit big bike grips if I were you.

They were free. Fit them and see if you like them. If you do, fine. If they aren't hot enough, remove them and get the sports bike ones.

It's a half hour job to fit them if you are drinking tea, 15 minutes if you are applying yourself Laughing Thumbs Up

Don't listen to this man! It is not a 15 minute job especially if you're doing it for the first time, and especially if you have to route cables decently and / or find good cable positioning that works well with muffs and doesn't affect throttle action on handlebar turning; crimping more appropriate electrical connectors, wiring into harness in the right place so the grips don't stay on when the ignition is off; etc.

The SH300 took about 2 hours, not including hauling tools etc. to and from the bike. I'd rather pay up to £60 to someone else to do it next time, if I could be guaranteed they'd do it with care.

15 minutes if you are 'applying yourself' doesn't seem unreasonable.

Ok, I would take longer than that to pretty it up personally - I'd be doing it with a separate fuse and a relay.
But if they're made to use the brake light feed or whatever, should be pretty quick to do.

Note that pretty much all handlebars are 7/8th of an inch.

I'd match them with Tuccano Urbano muffs, which in combination should do the job nicely I reckon.

Hook 'em up straight to your battery without putting them on the bike and see if they're hot enough for you when power up. If you like, add them to your bike, if not, don't.
