Can any owners give me some pro's and cons of the K5-K6 Gixxer Thou and the RR6-RR7

Just got my bank loan and selling a few parts from my bike Thumbs Up

I just cant make my mind up, i lusted after the RR7 in HRC trim for years with its aggressive looks but think that the Gixxer will age better and has aged better?

https://i999.photobucket.com/albums/af120/brownsjuk/GSXR/DSCF6501.jpg

https://www.motorsticker.nl/custom/gallery/CBR1000RR/HRC-cbr1000rr.JPG

its hard to sort a back to back test ride as few places have both bikes and its shit weather at the moment

I'm aware of the Honda Sump and Corrosion issues on some and the Recall of the Gixxer for the brace

Any one got some real world a day in the life experiences, bike will mainly be used 40 mile round trip on the motorway weekdays and blasts on weekends with some two up occasionally

How much more get up and go have they got than an RR3?

Any feedback from owners past and present would be great

Moving onto the tasty bit!... they both look nice.. but the honda just has that "edge"and would defo be my first choice Wink not sure about performance or any of the other important stuff... i am sure someone will comment with the crack about that though Smile

I'm not offended, why would that offend me or indeed get me in over my head?

This is a bike site, if i needed financial guidance i wouldn't ask here... for piece of mind though all is well in the world and I'm not in over my head Laughing

ill wait for some of the owners to report back on the bikes

Thanks

Ridden the GSXR1000 K6 for a while.

Loved it.

Ridden a 2005 Fireblade, so bit outta the age you are looking at but if I had to choose, GSXR.

I can't explain how much that bike made me grin Laughing

I went for the GSXR but haven't ridden that era of 'blade.

You really need to ride them both to decide, or just pick one and chances are you'll be happy with it. Its not like either's gonna be shit. Laughing

Not had any trouble with my GSXR in the few years I've had it, nothing you're asking of it is going to bother it (shit for the pillion though!).

Why? Because with a bank loan you go in with money and give them money, that bike is now yours it can't be taken from you, where as finance you never see the money and if you miss a payment they will just repo it.

As for the bike, one is the tampon of the motorbike world and the other is meh, if it was me I would buy something interesting not something that is 10 a penny that will get lost in a sea of identical bikes at any biker haunt Thumbs Up

Not had a go on that era of Blade, but I have on the RR8. Bloody brilliant it was, probably the easiest bike to ride fast I've ever had the pleasure of riding, and seemed like a bike that could do everything. If your budget will stretch that far for a good high miler it could be worth looking at.

As for the Gixxer, I've had a play on a K7 750, quite how similar that is to the thou I wouldn't know, and my experience of that probably isn't relevant as its got snazzy Bitubo suspenders. So I can't help you much on that one.

I used to own a 954 blade, and the K5 GSXR1000 is a better bike in most respects. The blade was too hard for the road and scary on the track, The Gixxer on the other hand is probably one of the nicest 1000cc sportsbikes for the road I've ever rdden. I didn't find it as exciting as the Blade, but it was a nicer road bike.

Neither are much fun on the road for me though, I prefer smaller capacity bikes as there's no way you can come close to feeling like you're thrashing either on the road. I'm told that the pointier later blade is even worse for that.

Not ridden either but always read that the k5 gixxer was one of the best litre bikes to grace our roads.

Strange that re the RR3 i don't know who set uyp this blade but its superb, absorbs the bumps so well and yet is firm under breaking and into the corner as well yet doesn't have progressive springs fitted

I'm fancying the Suzuki but herd the plastics are a bit poor round the tail end, how did you find the build quality im compassion to the RR3?

i know what you mean re power its such a rush when you crack them open and the needle climbs hard past 6k and the rush just get going

i like twins but its a totally different power delivery the twins are lumpy and brutal where the in line 4 just lofts with silky smooth power thats so liner

That blade is gorgeous.
Although to be fair, both bikes look extremely similar.

Looks a lot like the standard fit titanium one if it wasn't for the welded joins in the link pipe:

Edit: in fact on second thoughts it isn't all that similar.

When looking at the options, I went for the GSXR as it seemed to do everything better, bar look pretty - and the looks did grow on me a bit.

Engine better in 'most all aspects.
Handling fine.
A little less 'extreme' riding position.

CBRs do tend to be very 'comforting' - they let you go fast with minimal drama.

Remember that in 08 the CBR was revised to the fugly example - but got massive mid-range too. Not sure if it'd beat the GSXR in peak power, but should do in a roll-on easily.

Finally - the story goes that BMW bought a couple of K6 GSXR 1000s when they were developing the S1000RR!

The welding part is what I'm after, the scorpion and come to think of it most aftermarket cans on the newer ones (mines an L1) have that horrible gap between fairing and can where the standard cover usually hides it. Pic below for example:

Sorry, well off topic I know. Anyway, OP get the GSXR and tell me what the can is Wink
