Anybody else get really irritated by sellers who treat you like an idiot? I've been keeping my eyes open for a really cheap scooter, just to play with, strip etc. Today, I came across this;

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181109174618&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123

Now, 6 miles a day for 18 months adds up to 2,300 miles or so. Where's the other 5,500 odd miles come from? 8,000 miles in 18 months is serious mileage for a 50cc Why can't people just tell the truth.

It's a lot of mileage but not unusual? I did 3500 miles in a year on my first 50cc moped. If its your main transport to work,friends, college etc the miles soon add up!

I think it's obvious. The husband has an affair.
That's where the extra mileage came from Laughing

8000 miles in 18 months on a ped is unusual to you? Laughing

Bear in mind I know people who use their mopeds for 30 mile round trips every day.. that soon adds up.

Odo is in km?

Would make it about 5k miles.

Where did you get the 6 miles a day from? Could be 18 months (ago)?

Confused Question

"It broke down after about 18 months ago after daily use to the station"

Her wording is very vague anyway - it could be 18 months ago (meaning it was used for around 24 months) or it was used for 18 months. I guess she might've meant 6 miles each way.

8000 km and the ad didn't say it was used only for the 6 miles a day... it could also be 6 miles each way. What difference does it make anyway, that is what the odometer is for.

Having ridden one for about 3 miles, I can't imagine anything worse than having to suffer that. But, yes, I am very surprised.

This is my favourite reason Laughing

Suppose I'm just a bit hacked off with sellers in general, this was just another idiot seller. Having been to see a few that have been advertised, I just can't get over why people lie about condition etc. It's not as though you won't spot it when you turn up;

18 months = 78 weeks
7934 / 78 = 100 kms (approx) or 62 miles
Average working week = 5 days
5 X (6 X 2) miles commute (there and back) = 60 miles

Seems legit Thumbs Up

Possibly, if it is km, but ad states miles. Just to be pedantic Laughing You'd need to take holidays into account, so a 'normal' person would work 72 weeks in that 18 months, with probably another week taken off for bank holidays, so;
7934/71=111km or 69 miles

So, probably OK if km, but nowhere near if miles. Anyhoo, had my little rant, so I'm over it now Laughing

Still think it's a lot of miles for a ped, just feels more than an average 125 would do, and that's just not right.

I think the figures do roughly add up when you consider 7,934 is in km's.

But you have to look at the bigger picture anyway. They're basically telling you the bike is a piece of shit anyway. "Only lasted 18 months before breaking down" - "Probably only suitable for parts"... "Left on the drive" - they are hardly trying to over-sell it, or make out it's a good bike, are they! They're making it pretty clear the bike is a bit of a dog and they just want rid of it, so there's no reason to intentionally lie about how the bike got the mileage it did, no reason at all.

Paddy, having carefully read your Bodge List, I may make use of some of your "tips", but I'm not sure I'd ever buy a bike from you Laughing

Aye, you're probably right, the thread's probably an overkill, but I've seen so much shit recently, it doesn't take much to set me off at the moment.

Problem is, my actual day to day bikes get actual treatment, rather than bodges. Most of the bodging is done on J.M.s bike Laughing

Or...

Slight mistake of 6 miles per day actually meaning 6 miles each way.

12*350 (a rough 18 months of work days) = 4200miles

Add in a few extra miles for detours, popping to the shops on the weekend and all the other little trips people forget and you're probably close to the 4900 miles required to display just under 8000km on an odo...

Eh? Even given that it's a 50cc ped that's not serious mileage by any means.

It's a non issue. It says in the ad the mileage it has on it, where that mileage has come from is of no matter really.

I'd be more concerned if it said I've had this bike for 2 years and done a 20 mile round trip on it every day and it's got 2800 miles on it.

Except that I read somewhere that they are a re-badged Chinese ped.
So that's probably about a lifetime and a half and explains why the exhaust seems to have fallen off Smile.

Would definitely want to check if the exhaust has been left off - rusty valves not great!
