Hi Im a Lady biker, been riding for 5 years. My bike is a Triumph Speedmaster. I think the clutch is going and have a few questions:

Do I need the garage to have a test run on the bike in order for them to determine if its the clutch or is there a standing test they can do to suss it?

Does any one know of a decent garage in or around Derby who will deal with my bike?

Does anyone know if I can have an after market replacement clutch to keep the cost down?

I have been going to garage for a while, but my trust in them has diminished somewhat, can anyone help?

Sad

Is it definitely the clutch itself and not just the clutch cable that needs adjusted?
How far out is the clutch lever before it starts to bite?

As above.

Try adjusting it as per your user manual before you do anything else. Thumbs Up

Maybe describe the symptoms rather than the diagnosis?

You should have just a little slack at your clutch lever before it puts tension on the cable. By all rights they should slacken off rather than tightening up, but it does happen - I gave workmate a happy ending after 5 minutes of grubby fiddling in the office car park.

Other causes would be the cable or the clutch actuator arm (the bit that the cable attaches to down at the engine) sticking. It's a lube job and some wiggling in either case.

If in doubt, replace the cable before the clutch, it's £10 and DIY rather than "Oooh, that'll cost you" at Dodgy Dan's Bikes and No Questions Asked Waste Disposal.

A Triumph dealer would love to rip your purse open for that job.
Take it into them and ask what they think is wrong with it.
If you are handy with a ratchet and screwdriver you can do a clutch yourself.
Loads of clips of clowns on youtube to let you see how its done. If you get stuck there's load more clowns on her ewould help too. Smile

An aftermarket clutch would be EBC as they seem to be most popular (and possibly the OEM uses them too)

A help would be:
How many miles on your bike?
What sort of life has it had?
Have you had it from new/2nd hand etc.

The bcf massive have put several ladies and men on the moon before working only from our desktops or itops you know...
