I saw a CBR600F on eBay that I liked. I call up the dealer, tell him I'm interested and told him that I would be coming to view the next day. I've been to this guys garage before, he has a shit load of bikes in not that much space. So I asked if he could please move the bike out of the garage so I could have a look at it properly.

Again, I call him up, an hour before I'm going to arrive at the garage and confirm that I'm coming to view the bike, and ask him again to move the bike outside. He says that's fine and that it would be ready.

I turn up (after travelling from Leicester to Nottingham to see this bike) and guess what? It's still inside the building, sandwiched between so many bikes that I can't squeeze down either side of it.

Now what exactly am I going to be able to check if I can't even take the bike off it's side stand? Why waste both our time?

I swear to God, some of these guys aren't even interested in selling. I wasn't exactly kicking tyres either since I've put a deposit down on a bike today.

Fucking wanker.

Other than the fucking laziness, he seemed fine and answered questions. But if you can't be arsed to pull the bike out for someone who called up twice to confirm and travelled from another fucking city, you're just a fucking dick aren't you.

When I first got into bikes I couldn't even get my local bike garage to answer the phone... which did me a favour really because I had to learn how fix my bike myself Laughing

Still a pretty retarded way to run a business though.

How did the telephone conversaton go?

"Hey Numb nuts, I'm coming into look at one of your fucking bikes, get it ready for me you prick."

That would have jollied him up a bit. Smile

We went to look at a car in Bradford or that neck of t' woods. The fat arse had to move three cars out so we could get into it. It was filthy inside too. We drove 100 miles to see the fecker too. I said as we were leaving that he should valet the car and help get some weight off rather than sit in his office eating pies.
He started to give some shit back to me as we walked off. I smiled and waved at the eejit as we got in the car.
Some dealers are cnuts. Some do a bit more for their keep.

Glutton for punishment that I am, I'm minded to take a trip to the local "Ching Chong quads and trailies" merchant tomorrow to take a look at those WK CF Moto 650s[*]. I'll be astonished if they manage to be worse than the local big brand dealers.

[*] Strictly out of curiosity!

I was looking at bikes not long ago,

lots of dealers request you phone in advance so they can make sure the bike you're wanting to look at is available and that you can get to it to look at it.

Sounds like the OP did this then confirmed he was coming nearer to the time.

ok, so there's a 50/50 chance he's going to buy it / not buy it, he's certainly not going to buy it if it's tucked into the corner where he can't get close enough to read the millage counter is he?

stuff only sells if it's on the shelf as it were, that way people can look at it and make a decision.

I bet you were aggravated by that experiance!

I've been lucky and on the other end of the stick..... After searching through sites, forums and local rags, I spotted a bike at a local dealership and thought I'd go and take a peak. Shortly after entering the building I was approached by a sales person who offered assistance. I explained that I'd come to view the bike that I wanted to see and was pointed to the middle of the showroom. The sales person showed me around the bike and then showed me over to a seating area and offered me a coffee whilst I waited for them to shuffle all the bikes around to get the one I was looking at out to the front of the showroom, for me to have a good look around - this was there suggestion, not a request from me. Needless to say, after the hospitality I recieved a deal was struck and I left a happy buyer. Very Happy

To think that I didn't even call them to say I was coming and recieved such good service - would have hacked me right off if I had called them and experianced what you have. Sad

It does seriously question if they want to sell any bikes, as you say. After you went to the effort to let them know you were coming and actually asked them to make the bike viewable and they didn't - this isn't just poor service, i'd say it's bordering on being darn rude of them.

Same thing happened to me. Rang up a dealer and asked about a bike. Sounded Ok so asked about a trade in on my 125. The price was laughable (about 400 quid less than two other dealers had offered me) so i told him I was a serious buyer and could he up it - I actually wanted the bike he was selling quite a lot and it was near me so I thought to myself well if he won't up the price then fair enough, he might not want another 125 on his books and perhaps i'll just flog the 125 privately when...the dealer just went off on one at me saying if I didn't like his price then tough and put the phone down......

I was stunned.

Scenario:
Looking for a CG125. Punch in Honda CG125 into Biketrader.
Several results came back loads of them from cnuts selling Chinese 125s. But of course they don't say this in the ad until you click on the link.
I got a bit-out-of-shape over it so called one of them to find out why he advertised a Honda when he was selling a Whang Chung. I wasn't loud just got under his fur a bit. He fired a few fucks and bastards down the phone at me and hung up.
I called the fecker back ten minutes later and told him sorry we seem to have been cut off. What were you telling me about the Honda 125? He went off again.
I love fcuking with some people.

Conversely the bike dealers around me are sound. Always helpful, popped into Lings Honda a few days ago and I was approached and offered tea and coffee, even though he knew I was just having a quick mooch. Have come across some miserable sods over the years, best thing is to not give them your money. Simple as.

Mmm, I've never got a call back from any dealer, nor an email answer to the question that I actually asked.

You'd think, but some of these Frank Dobermans seem to get by for years, or even generations. I guess there's always a few doormat mugs out there who are paying their stitch-up prices and thinking themselves lucky to be allowed to buy such a great bike. Rolling Eyes

Right, I've got my permission slip from Mrs B to try the Ching Chong dealer tomorrow. I'll try and get stabbed for an epic Bawww post. Thumbs Up

I often find thats the case when its not a main manufacturer dealer, even some of the dealer franchises are shady. Its always the guys that have all the bikes in a big lockup style setup that i've had problems with.

When i passed my test last year, i had a couple grand saved up and thought "sod it all spunk the lot on a cheap 'un as its my first bike then get something nice", went to a place up the road and the guy just wasnt interested, there was easily ten bikes i liked the look of and even told him about a few i was interested in but he didnt seem bothered..

... fast forward a couple days and im in John Banks Honda. Sent the bike salesman an email saying what i was interested in, he phoned me back a half an hour later organising when i can come and view. When i got there, was immediately offered tea/coffee/muffin and shown to a corner of the showroom where he had laid out a selection of new and used for me to have a look at.

Went and had a sit down and chat and he said i could have a free Akra upgrade and he would also throw in the 33bhp restriction and fitting if i signed up that day. I went back a couple days later after a think and he still honoured the deal....

Out i walked with a brand new bike and Mr. Honda £7300 better off.

A few years ago I took an NC30 out for a test ride. It conked out mid-ride and had to be picked up.
Upon returning to the dealership, the first words out of the salesman's mouth were "So, how much deposit do you want to put down on it?".

I still laugh today when I think about it.

Was meaning to post this a few days ago but have been at work a lot so couldn't. I think we all agree it's hard to find a decent and genuine dealer that has time for the customer and you can trust. This video seems quite relevant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RULsQ88XJXA

Had a good experience dealing with MCS in Paisley. went in a couple of times to see what I was wanting before settling on the ER6F. Negotiated about 10% of the top line and picked it up a couple of weeks later when it was built. Cracking service from start to finish. Always someone on the floor dealing with customers, offering coffee etc. Sometimes a bit slow with sales staff depending how busy a day it is but all round good experience.
