Almost a year ago I wrote off my first hornet, with everything that was going on at the time I just declared it SORN. The only way to have a bike written off properly is taking it to a scrap dealer, them declaring it written off (unless Im wrong). Then they fill out paperwork and you send this to the DVLA. Or the insurance company declaring it written off, but I never told/ never will tell them.

SO... is there something I can do other than keep declaring it SORN for a few years and then forget about it and hope I don't get a fine. I cant take the damaged bike to a scrap dealer now, because I broke it up and the parts are spread throughout the hornets of the UK, several landfills and probably formed part of a coke can.

The v5 should have a section to effectively write it off, it's something along the lines of broken for spares or not to be returned to the road. Have a good look through your v5, it is there.

Couldn't see anything apart from the form for scrap dealers to fill out.

Also just found this:

Hmm, Sure I've seen it on a v5 before Confused

I've got a half broken cbr600 that could cause issues if that is the case!

should be the yellow section, send that into the dvla with a covering letter saying the bike has been broken for parts and sold off and will never be returned to the road

the other option is do you want to? if the frame and numbers are intact you can sell that along with the logbook on ebay or similar

Yellow section is only if it going to a motor/scrap dealer. Has to have dealers address, stamp etc.

Frame was bent banana shape so no hope of that, more or less the only bit I have left. Rest was sold or thrown away.

Isn't SORN going to be made a once only operation, with no yearly repeat required?

You didn't hear this from me Wink

'Sell' it to Mr John Smith, some random address, some random town. Or at least that's what you put on the V5 when you send it to DVLA Wink

So if you've got the frame and the V5, take them to a scrappy and that's it, job done.
