Recommend me a bike deliverer please - cardiff to york kind of route / distance. Van preferred over trailer.

I've used BLD before, not the quickest because they link runs with insurance drop offs and collections, but excellent customer service, delivered in a van, with great communication from their office.

Thanks - I'll check that. I would prefer cheapness over speed of turn around so that's cool.

Seconded.

Properly kitted van with bump locks and ramp and correct insurance to cover bikes.

I have a van with a ramp, got family in Yorkshire, but i'm a long way from Cardiff. But as it would be cash, no VAT, get a quote and let me know what it is, could be worth my while as i've got 6 days off next weekend.

FIFTY?!? Holy shit. I doubt that would even pay the petrol/diesel. In fact I'm sure it wouldn't.

Shiply generally works with 'back loads'.

So if you've got someone who's already doing the exact journey you want and has an empty van coming back, they can offer a good price as it doesn't cost them any extra.

Thus suggesting you may well get it for less than the price of fuel for a fairly cheap van.

The problem arises when these "runs" are cancelled and your bike suddenly disappears for longer than you anticipated, I did read on the internet once of a story when one of these £50 merchants had a clutch go, didn't have the money to get it fixed and the van stayed in the garage complete with the bike, couple of chairs and any other tat he'd picked up along the way until he had enough money to get it fixed, the person whose bike it was tracked it down and got someone else to collect it from the back of the van at the garage and bring it home, I'll see if I can find the link Shocked

The other thing with backloads is it will generally just be ordinary couriers with a plank and a mattress in the back and your bike strapped down and hope it doesn't move because most goods in transit insurance (if they have any) won't cover vehicles.

Your bike being moved for £50 beer money won't seem like such a bargain when one side of the bike is mashed and joe smith couriers has no cover to or money to sort the £2k repair bill.

Right, right - good info one and all. Much appreciated. Anyway, it's looking a bit more likely that I might be able to scrape together the readies - so I'm getting nervous.

I bought my van purely to transport my bikes. It won't be insured, but it will be as safe as my own bike, and driven by a truck driver with millions of miles under his belt across 12 European countries.

I don't mind if my bike isn't insured, others might care but I don't readily pay high sums for bikes, and If I did, I'd go there, check it out and part ways with cash and ride it home.

Yeah I hear ya. I've spent *way* too many hours in vans over the years. Which is to say, FUCK loads. Mainly Manchester to London.

A proper motorbike mover will be able to do that for just slightly more than the fuel has been calculated at (£100) I think the link I posted charges a flat £100 +vat (£120) unless you are one of the extremities of the country.

They will be able to do this as they will be able to carry multiple bikes safely and securely criss crossing all over the country out for a few days at a time
