Unsure if this is stainless, but its blowing at the clamp and we cannot remove it to check the join/add a gasket.

Any ideas how to get this off? Might not look good for Motad, but I couldn't care, my mild steel or Ti system never had this issue Whistle

The downpipes are stainless the can/linkpipe bit is chromed mild steel. here are the steps to remove:

1. Clean it up as best as possible
2. soak in wd40 or similar over night
3. Hit with rubber hammer
4. Sod it hit it with proper hammer
5. hit it with bigger hammer
6. lose temper, beat living daylights out of it and swear lots.
7. buy new exhaust.

At least that seems to be the way things go for me with these mo-turds.

Alternatively get it welded in situ or cut the can/linkpipe off and get a new linkpipe made up in stainless to fit a universal 50mm slip on.

I have never had anything but bad experiences with moturd exhaust to be fair the downpipes are always fine its the bloody silencers that either rot from the inside out or like this one the joint seizes up between the linkpipe and downpipes.

My friend Joe however has a full stainless motad venom system on his fazer and it sounds and looks bloody good.

Trust me, hammer has been used, not a farty little thing either, proper banging against it with a large piece of metal and the fucker still will not move.

looks like a shit design having the pipes collect at the start of the can. Wiggle/hit sideways?

What bike? ebay a OE stainless can and shorten until correct noise level

No money to spend on bike.

Either needs to be removed or will weld the gap to stop it blowing there... either way will need it sorting for MOT.

If my tactics have already been employed to no success you can either weld in situ or cut off and replace.

the last one I ditched I used a small dremel to cut off the mild steel linkpipe bits whilst being careful not to damage the stainless downpipes then bought some stainless tube off ebay and made a 2 into 1 so we could fit any can we liked. we did use mild steel wire so the joins would have rusted so painted em with silver exhaust paint.

Might take the whole system off... get it in the garage and do some semi bodge work on it without having to ruin my back laying on the floor.

its a chrome system- we only started making in stainless 5 years ago.

I can age your system by the fact that it has a Nexxus badge which we stopped fitting 8 years ago- we are not being complacent but I would have thought 8 years or more use would be ok.

if you give me the FAB number on the silencer I will tell you exactly how old it is- could be a lot older by looking at the rust

email me at work on ianmcdonald@motad.co.uk and I will see if we have an ex test or damaged silencer I can do you a "deal" on- even though its WAY out of warranty we will try and help

one of the reason why we changed to stainless 5 years ago - the chrome ones like this started to rust after 8-10 years use

Hey,

Nice gesture but this will not budge, that and the bike has only done 10k.. so no idea how many with this fitted.

Can't really afford to splash out on a bike that isn't mine. Picked up for a friend and getting it working, only hold ups are carb rubbers and blowing exhaust.

Thinkin on bodge lines Paddy, could you exhaust paste it, bean can over the top and then exhaust wrap it? Couple of extra jubilee clips? I got some paste left I can post to you if you haven’t got any.

Can you not remove it from the bike complete with downpipes - for a better chance of grappling with it?

..Or is it like the Pan Euro and the exhaust runs through the centre stand section? Thinking

as you are probably aware- the worst thing for exhausts is low mileage

sitting about for 8 or more years without regular use lets the acidic liquid that is never dried out do its work

the offer is still open if you want me to search the seconds area

email me on ianmcdonald@motad.co.uk if your quick fix does not work

would be useful to get the fab number to see how old it really is- with that level of rust I would say 12-15 years use or a previous owner who was a deep sea fisherman and parked the bike on the sea wall!

I'll get the number ASAP, won't be today though.

The Nexxus on both my GS500 and XJ600S previously had low miles, both K reg, so 93 models, each had under 14k present and exhausts were solid Thumbs Up

no worries- am back in thursday

we do make things difficult for ourselves- we build the things to last and its easy to look at outside of one of our systems and be dissapointed about baffles collapsing etc- missing the fact that the exhaust my have been on 15-20 years in some cases!

the chinese stuff has as easy ride- its broken inside 2-3 years so its never there for someone to be dissapointed with!

no pressure if you are on mega tight budget and cant promise to have something cheap- but email me on ianmcdonald@motad.co.uk and will have a look if your weld and paste job doesnt work

Thing is, its not my bike to bodge. I wouldn't risk another persons bike with my bodging, and the bodging is usually temporary.

I have some paste and clamps, so might put some paste in there, clamp it tight and see if it stops the horrible popping noise.

(Hijack) Hi Ian. Do you have any "Test" silencers for a 1986 Honda CB350SG I brought new downpipes last year but the silencer is split inside the connector its rotted between the pipes and wont seal correctly there!

Cheers (end Hijack)

sorry no- and we have discontinued this system so its not likely we will have in the future. Silencer used in our 250/400N system is the same just with different approval numbers- so if you find a silencer with either M24H or M34H stamped then they will do it- ebay or a breakers?

or otherwise email me ianmcdonald@motad.co.uk and if we make a batch in the near future to an order I can check if theres a damaged one

If you can't get it apart and need a quick fix then ram it full of gun gum and stick a jubilee clip over the joint to stop it blowing out. Thumbs Up

I had to get the pre silencer off my ktm lc4 once. I had to strap the front of the bike to the work bench and strap the exhaust to the towbar of my van and slowly drive off.

Got the bugger off Wink.
