I'm considering one as a first proper road bike, been doing the Enduro/Supermoto thing too long now Laughing Having said that I'd hate to get a 'boring' roadster, do they like to lift the front wheel up? anything else to watch out for?

They sound utterly immense.

Any bike will lift the front, only bikes I've found that actively want to lift are SM's, Litre Twins and IL4's.

Very light, stable and solid bikes. Can be a bit twitchy at high speed (+100mph bends etc) due to no wind protection. People say the R's brakes are a lot better but I failed to see the difference for my skill level. Front wheel lifts a lot if youre ham-fisted. Or if you want it to.

Having said that the spread of power is very good and riding around town in just third and fourth gear is more than possible with a little forward planning and clutch slipping. I found my legs got a little cramped if I didnt shift about a bit after a while and I'm only 5"7 but more than comfy apart from that (for a naked bike anyway).

Very dissapointed I had to sell mine as had it from new and best bike I ever had.

Fuel consumption can be an issue in town or through silly riding but generally I got 140-150 to a tank before I got very worried about what was left in there.

Reg/recs are meant to go but I never had a single issue with my bike, although I only covered about 8k in 2 years. Held up fine in all weather conditions though. Steering lock can be a pain in town.

One thing that gets annoying and was never mentioned in any of the reviews is the very sensitive throttle, anything other than a perfectly smooth road will give you whiplash.

Mine is probably one of the most eager to wheelie bikes I've ever owned. The brakes and suspension on mine are phenomenal (it is an R) and I think it might be a little bit too much for a n00b.

It is a good bike, it sounds excellent and I'm very pleased with it.

AMAZING, had mine nearly a year now, which for me is a long time seeming and my last two bikes (both gsxr's) only lasted seven months each and were high modified. on them i changed breaks, forks, power commander, exhaust, shock and wheels on one.

The street triple r is completely standard apart from arrow cans and the rest is just for looks e.g tail tidy etc etc etc. The bike just does everything very well. It is so much more usable than a sports bike and just as quick. Just don't get into the habit i had of pulling whellies past every hot girl you see and sliding it around killing tyres.

best thing I've ever ridden for an all round bike, you can commute on it, track day it or take it out sundays for a serious ride where it will hold its own and move its arse a whole load better than it should for its size, fuel consumption can get a bit 2 stroke if used hard

ride one at you local dealers first, you'll love it

It's the second bike I have kept for a full year ( Laughing ) an I have no intention of changing it. 3-1 exhaust, quickshifter and all is good!

This is the bike I'll be looking at but one thing has just struck me, the forks are sticking up through the yokes. This could only mean 2 things in my mind - it's been intentionally lowered or they've had a knock and slipped. Would it ever come out of the factory like this? Maybe it's just me over thinking, what do you lot reckon?

Took the 2012 R model out late last year and fell in love with it. The engine pulls cleanly throughout the rev range and the blue gear shift lights are a rather swanky feature. The bike handles phenomenally and the brakes are superb. The only gripe I personally have with the street it is that the engine doesn't have enough low down torque which made it feel like you have to give it the beans all the time to get anything out of it. The quickshifter certainly adds some fun into the mix but for me, the bike is purely one for hooning at the weekend rather than commuting.

If I had the cash, I would probably get the speed over the street for the extra torque though I would happily buy either bikes.

My ZXR 750 came out of the factory that way. The Haynes Manual specified that the forks should be sticking 3mm out of the top of the yoke.

Really?? Neutral

Seems to have plenty compared to the bikes I've ridden. You can pretty much use it like a scooter around London

But why would the factory release them with the forks in different positions? Every other Street Triple I look at the fork sits flush with the yoke there is about an inch or more gap on that one?

Yeah it will have been lowered slightly. I only highlighted the comment you made about a knock making it slip. That doesn't happen.

Simple fix, loosen the clamp, shuffle them down slightly, tighten up again. Try not to worry too much mate, just ask if the rear has also been lowered.

Some people do that to speed up the steering. Bear in mind that the Street has a slightly different geometry to the Daytona. It could also be that the bike has been lowered for a short rider, and should have a corresponding drop in the rear suspension too.

My Street forks are flush with the top yoke, but I have an R model...

I think that varies from bike to bike, mine feels very steady compared to my ER-6. A test ride would be a good check.

Agreed.
Mine did shit me up a little when I first test rode it but then I reasoned that its always better to have too much rather than not enough.
It still puts a big smile on my face and I really have a hard time imagining riding anything else. Thumbs Up
