I was riding along on my Speedfight today and it just lost all power, backfired twice and stoped!
Its got pleanty of compression
Its got a Good spark!
There is enough fuel geting into the barrel
But it just wont fire or start...
Any ideas!?!
My ignition switch was playing up last week and I was told that it could be my immobiliser and soon it wont start at all!
Could this be the problem!
Cheers... Ben... |

Right, I tried it with a new plug as well as the old 1. There is a very strong spark!
when the engine is assembeled it wont fire or turn over or anything, there is nothing. But theres pleanty of compression!
at first I thaugth it was a fuel problem, but I put some neat fuel straight into the barrel and put the plug in, pressed the ignition button and nothing. It was turning over, but no spark, didnt even fire once. but it was backfireing . (without a flame).
Its baffeling me cos I just cant find anything wrong with it.
Its doing everything it should. Got spark, compression and fule.
What else could it be?

My extensive knowledge of 2T engines stops at this point im affraid Seems to be quite a lot of people on here who know a lot more than me about this sort of thing, so wouldn't be surprised if someone can suggest a more likely problem ____________________ I love the girls that do, I hate the girls that dont, I hate the girls who say they will and then they say they wont, but the girl I like most of all and I think youll say Im right, is the girl who says she never has but looks as though she might. - Max Bygraves |

we never found the problem but we got it running again
we did all sorts of things but what we did find is that it was flooding so we took thecarb off and cleaned it all and just kept winding it over it backfired a few times and then fired a few times and started eventually and has been fine since ____________________ I need help |

Hmm. well tomorrow im going to take the carb off, take all my pipes off and strip it right down to basics, clean everything out and put it all back together (with the help of my haynes manual )
and Hopefully *fingers crossed* it should fire up!
I dont get it, I was just riding along perfectly fine and it just cut out and I had to push it 3 miles home "UPHILL!"

Ok. So lets just say it is my immobiliser... Would it still give out a spark when its turning over?
Im pretty sure we can rule compression out of this, because it seems to have excelent compression. I took the plug out and hit the ignition, then put my finger over the sparkplug port and it was like pushing my finger right back off!
It just makes no sense because its got a spark, got fuel and compression. Surely it would at least fire once. Its not even fireing at all.
I cant see it being my mixture or anything cos it had been fine all day, and as I was driving home, it was riding perfectly, then all of a sudden it cut out.
Ive recently been having ignition problems though, and sombody said that its my CDI and that it will eventually not start at all, Is this the problem do you recon?
Gaz, I was trying to bump start it earlier but for some reason, I couldnt ingage the clutch in first...

Ok, here is a wild stab in the dark as I know little about twist 'n' go engines but a motorcycle that doesn't start and backfires to me has a too far advanced spark.
Now this should not be possible as it is a CDI ignition but I have had bikes that require the gap between the CDI sensor coil and the tab on the flywheel to be adjusted periodically. If it gets too big the spark comes in at the wrong time or becomes very intermittant. The sensor coil could also have come a bit loose.
I couldn't tell you where to look for these bits on your bike and as I say it is a bit of a stab in the dark.
To me a bike with fuel and a good spark which backfires and doesn't start = ignition advanced or a lot retarded. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
