I have undone the nut holding the rear brake on sat on the bike but it doesn't pull away?

It says held in with two bolts in the service manual but there's no way that looks like a bolt it is round will post a picture.

Do I need a tool to get it off to remove the backing plate? If so can it be purchased over the counter?

How badly will it ruin my new chain if I just change the rear sprocket and leave the old one?

You need a flange gripper for that, Halfords sell them.

Use a dremel grind the head off the offending bolt, rotate tab lock and remove, just put two new bolts in when you replace the sprocket.

As you say, you need to remove both bolts, then the thin plate turns so it lines up with the splines and slips off. Then you can pull the sprocket off.

However, the domed thing sitting in the bolt hole is a problem. I think it is one of those security bolts that have a hex head which snaps off when the bolt is tightened fully.
