Waiting on some indicators for my friend's bike, but he wants to get it MOTed so he can tax and use it while he's waiting. It's an NSR125R italian import so the indicators are built into the fairings.

What's the deal with taping over certain things to circumvent the indicator part of the MOT? Do we need to remove the indicators and tape over the switch or can we tape over both?

As far as I'm aware, you'd need to tape up/remove all lights to get a daylight MOT. Indicators are a mandatory item on bikes made since 1982 or some such, so having other lights but not them would be a fail.

Are the indicators that are built in irreparable?

Am I right in thinking that according to this:

https://www.motuk.co.uk/mcmanual_150.htm

We can tape over all four indicators to fully mask them, tape over the switch, and receive an advisory for no indicators, or do I have to tape over the headlights and rear light as well?

Rear lights too? Doesn't it need a brake light? It has a brake light that works.

One is smashed up from the bike going down the road. I have a pair of after markets but as the indicators sit in the fairings there's no mounting points and I don't want to butcher the fairings or anything like that.

just ring or go down to the MOT place and ask what their policy on indicators and daylight/regular MOTs are.

A rear/stop light requires all other lights.

No lights at all requires just that, cover them all up, remove after MOT and ride with no indicators.

Done loads. It isn't a "local" policy, it is the MOT rules.. Rolling Eyes

Hey up guys.

Took it in and it got a fail on two counts.

One was too much play in suspension linkage/swingarm side to side as well.

The other was it was pissing fuel out when leant over, we did wonder why it was doing bad MPG figures! So that's a float valve issue, should be an easy fix.

The first one is a bit of a concern though, I don't know where we could get bearings from? Any ideas or anybody know much about NSR 125s

Yeah, good idea. The bike is going to be laid up anyway so I guess there's no harm in taking the swingarm and suspension linkage off.
