Do I:

A. Wait until I sell the Hornet before I put the money I get for it to another bike?

Benefits are lack of CC interest and small upgrade in insurance when I buy another.

B. Buy another bike on the credit card and pay it off when I sell the Hornet?

Benefit is instant gratification, but I'd have to shell out for another insurance policy AND take a hit when I cancel the insurance on the Hornet.

C. Part ex the Hornet for a lot less than what I'd get on a private sale?

Instant gratification but self loathing 'cos I wasn't patient and will regret missing out on, and having to shell out, more money.

D. Don't change bike?

Then I'd be twitchy for the rest of the summer, but still have a nice bike to blat round on.

Give me guidance, oh wondrous BCF sages...

Sell your bike first. No point being hit financially when you already have a bike to play on until it sells.

1st one also.

I've just bought a new bike without selling my other one yet. I now owe my Dad about £500. If my other bike doesn't sell then I'm fucked.

It was best for me though as my tax and insurance had just expired as I found a suitable next bike. Asked Dad if he could tie me over until my other bike sold and he fortunately said yes! But still, I hate debt.

Depends, if you can get an interest free credit card deal, then I'd go for that. Also, you will only be charged interest if you don't pay off the amount within 30 to 90 days (dependent upon card). So, you could buy new bike, sell old one, pay off CC. I'd go for CC every time as it gives me added protection, but I would make sure I paid it off if at all possible.

It depends if you see a really good deal, I'd say.
Just unfortunate that you're unlikely to be able to pay for a good deal with your card - as it's rare dealers have that great deals.
But if it was a case of getting a bike at 20% off what you'd otherwise pay or whatever, then you'll still be quids-in, even with fees.

Sell your bike first Thumbs Up

Having the cash in your hand for your new bike is a good bargaining tool. Wink

If you can live without the bike for a few days then sell first. Bear in mind that you may not find a bike you want straight away.

Would this work?

Buy new bike on CC
Get new CC with 0% interest on balance transfers
Transfer balance from old CC to new CC.

?

Same reason as anyone really I guess, just fancy something different. Bigger with a bit more grunt. Although saying that, absolutely love the Hornet, so wouldn't be too bothered about keeping it another year. I'd get the 16k service done and another can banged on it if I was gonna do that though. However, if I could sell it tomorrow for something like what I want for it, I'd be sad to see it go, but go it would and I'd be riding something new this time next week.

Thanks for all the input guys, much appreciated.

First or last. It's never worth hocking your soul, especially in these uncertain times.

You did your CBT in 2010. If I were you I'd still be enjoying the Hornet until it felt like a toy.

But I'm not you. Which is good as it would be confusing. Mr. Green
