I'm wanting to get a new bike for this summer but the insurance on my current bike doesn't run out until August. Obviously I would like my NCB, I'm 20 and have been riding for 1.5 years so it will help a lot. If I were to get a bike in July, would I be able to insure the bike, then cancel within the 14 day cool down period, do that twice, and in theory I wouldn't have to pay out a penny, then in August I'd do my insurance properly.

Officially. Yes, as long as you didn't lie about the NCD levels available to you. You'd also need to be very wary of any broker levies and cancellation charges you'd incur, so read the broker's terms of business very carefully, if you're involving a broker.

If you lied and said you had 2 years NCD available, when you don't really, then that could get a bit messy. You'd have to disclose nil NCD as none is available to you to transfer at the point of inception.

Cancelling within the 14 day cooling off period will cost you a minimum of the administration charge + IPT.

My current company is £26.

Other companies can sometimes charge like £100. Shocked

Paddy's idea is good. My Dad has had his bike license for 25 years, which means if I ever need to insure an expensive bike for a short period, I'm fine with my ride other bikes. Laughing

Lil bit. They quoted me FC £550/month for a GSXR600 K8. I can get quoted FC £400/year from other insurers Laughing

Can't you swap the bike on your current insurance? That's what I did when I moved from a 125 to a 600. I think I paid maybe £50 more.
