which bike?

im thinking about getting a motorbike and am looking around on the net a bit and am still unsure of what i want so if anyone wants to help then please do.
im currently 16 and sorting out my provisional licence, my birthday is in march so my parents are supplying the cash for some of the stuff i need (like a bike) once iv completed my cbt.
the kind of bike im looking for is a 125cc under 14.6hp as i most likely wont do any further tests for a good few months after unless i really have/want to due to a lack of cash after i buy all the gear, im quite interested in the Honda NSR 125 but its 15hp which would be too much, which brings me to my next question, can you and would it pay off to have a higher hp bike and just restrict it to under 14.6hp and then once iv completed further tests and i can ride a 33bhp bike just de-restrict it?
the main use of the bike would be to get to college and back (about 6 miles away) so itll be doing 12 miles 3 days a week and then where ever i go on weekends so its gotta be prepared to run quite a bit without falling apart and also i only have a budget of about a grand or £1,500 maximum for the bike

Well i just bought for a mate who's in a similar situation (except he;'s already 17) a black 03 NSR for £1500 exact after a bit of haggling.

Depends what your after, i think that no ones ever going to argue about .8 bhp, and it might not even be 15 if its not tuned but i dont know enough about NSR's to tell you that.

You after that kind of style then? Sporty Rep's etc?

Take a look around Bike Trader, Loot an the such. Probably be able ot find a decent condition (as in near perfect) NSR for about your price range, there great bikes compared to most from what i seen/heard.

I think its the balance between relibility of something like the CG and performance of the RS/Mito. Or so i picked up from what i read here an there.

With some sensible buying (looking for non-duds) and careful riding if you come to upgrade you'll have somethign to sell at the end of it.. which is always something to keep in mind!
