Spring is here (maybe) so I washed the layers of winter crap off the FZR and took a few snaps. I probably won't clean it again until the end of summer so I thought I'd make the most of it being clean.

Me and my friends used to graffiti there years ago. Great place for photos.

I've been planning to take some photos there for a while but every time I ride past there seems to be a car parked in the way.

I left it a little late this time as when I rode past it was just turning dusky, another 10 minutes and it would have been too dark but I thought I'd get a few pictures while I had the chance.
The problem I found was that with with the bike and background both being multi coloured the bike got lost a little against the graffiti.

I'm sure Ive read somewhere recently that there are only about 14 FZR400's registered on the roads in the UK these days.

Not sure how accurate it is though, the figure seems a bit low to me
I know there is an identical one to mine in Norwich as people kept saying they had seen me when I hadn't been anywhere, I finally spotted it parked up and instantly noticed a few minor differences but to the untrained eye it would look like the same bike.

It the original paint scheme apart from the front fairing which is a plain white replacement as I crashed and damaged the original.
I was going to try and get it resprayed with the red to match the rest of the bike but to be honest with a couple of red stickers it doesn't really stand out and looks alright so I'll probably leave it as it is.

The bike is unfortunately more tatty then it looks, it has quite a few scratches and the tank is dented but I've been unable to source a replacement.
I've used it all year round for six years, done loads of trackdays and a bit of touring on it so I can trace back most of the damage to different memories which gives it character to me.

The photos were just taken on a Canon powershot s110 compact. It takes a nice photo for such a small little camera and has manual mode as well as a load of effect modes.
I did fancy a SLR camera but knew I'd end up never using it as they're so bulky to carry around. Still haven't really got a clue what I'm doing in manual mode although I've recently started reading a book (understanding Exposure) which seems to explain things in simple terms so I should be a pro in no time

there is more to photography than that i am affraid, all sorts of thing from composition and knowing when to break the rules to get a truley unique image

Sorry the title of the book is 'Understanding Exposure' but it covers all the basics of photography not just exposure. It's apparently quite a well known book or maybe I've just been conned

thanks, never read any books - dyslexia kinda kills that side of things. i just learn on the fly.

glad to hear it covers more than jsut exposure. once you get use to using manual you will wonder why you ever used auto. you may also find that even with the compact and bridge camera putting out fairly good images you will never match that of an SLR. there is something special about the images they produce, they also seem alot easier when you have a grasp of the basic of manual photography.

i am not sure about bridge cameras but one of the biggest benfits of DSLRs is shooting RAW. it means that post processing and editing is alot easier and opens alot more options to what can be done with image simply due to there being no compression before the image is stored.
