How many of you wear hi-viz clothing when riding? Thinking of getting a Hi-Viz motorbike jacket.

My jacket has fluorescent parts over it, it was just something I liked the style of when I went into the shop for a jacket.... I wouldn't wear a high-vis if I didn't have them on my jacket though (until they change the law that is)

I just want to do as much as possible to avoid getting crunched. Might just get a white jacket one with fluorescent patches.

Used to use one but it can cause mare harm wearing one depending on the type. Personally I don't wear one anymore and just keep a better eye on my surroundings approaching junctions slower, looking at the wheels instead of the drivers in cars going along the road.

Looking into the eyes of the drivers when they are at a junction seems to get them to think that you are human and some haven't pulled out because of the stare is what I believe.

If im travelling through a commercial area or travelling out of town i wear a hi viz top, but for daily commute and shopping i dont. Currently its just turning to winter here and the low angle of the sun seems to be what stops people seeing you until your shadow moves over them, i drove a car the other day in the evening and couldnt see much, for the glare. Even through magic sunglasses.

Im thinking a strobe on a pole would be good hi viz.

The thing is I'm still learning with my instructor and have spent less than 10 hours on the road so far.
In that short amount of time there has already been a few cunts who have pulled out on me. The majority have been of a "specific" type of driver, too! Rolling Eyes

You will have people pull out on you no matter what you drive or ride, however the bigger the vehicle the less likely they are to pull out in fear of getting squished.

If you are on a 125 then its more understandable because when people see "L" plates they automatically think hindrance and slow moving vehicle. It will take more time but you will get used to seeing them and you will move over further to the right or slow down depending on the individual instance.

Herrrro.

I'd suggest that you're right to get a hi-vis jacket rather than a separate vest, because then you can't make excuses to not wear it. Wink

Mine's an RST Enduro, which has stood up pretty well for 3 years.

With that on, a white helmet, and lights on, I still don't get seen (or perceived) though. Have a look at the SMIDSY weave for something else that you can try. I love it, and time the weave so that I'm moving away from the point of danger as I approach it, i.e. I've already started my avoidance manoeuvre.

Not in the daytime, but at night/poor visibility, I usually throw on a hi-vis vest. I probably should work on being more visible to be honest. Black trousers, black and white jacket and a black helmet is my current get-up... I do ride with my lights on and have a bright red bike though. Thumbs Up

I wore an orange vest, because I could also (in a pinch) use it for work (railway).

Sometimes.

Is the short answer. What tends to decide it is how cold it is. Iow, it's not so much a safety thing as a comfort issue.

I did a daft thing back when I bought it. I have a £60 black Spada jacket w/ some armour - standard issue Infinity mid-budget noob wear. But I wanted a viz job to go over it. So I thought it would have to be on the large side - cos I'm average height (5' 11"), medium-heavy build - and need to go over the jacket. I went for XXXXL. The fucker's MA-HOO-SIVE!!! It's like a vast orange tent.

Looks all kinds of wrong. But - BUT - it's warm as fuck!! Cos it's lined, and being so big it gets loads of air insulation pockets wotsit innit.

5,000 miles later - and because I wear it in the garage when doing stuff to the bike - it's grubby as a bastard. I'm a total bin man these days. Rockin the waste cleansing technician look.

Pretty sure the jacket has prevented near misses or collisions on several occasions. And it's a fairly regular occurrence for drivers to think I'm a copper. Not something I;ve ever read from hi vizzers on BCF or anywhere else either for that matter. But if you wear the full jacket, you'll soon notice that when people glance into the rear mirror and see you, they start to trim their road position, check speed and generally shit themselves slightly - in a way that is very different to the reaction you get in a black jacket. Sure - no one wants to look like a rozzer. But it's hard to deny the feeling of satisfaction when you can literally see cars suddenly begin driving more carefully.

So there's that.

But it's not very Back Street Heroes is it. Also, my massive hi-viz thing increases drag to such a degree that it shaves off about 10mph from top end. Maybe more. When I ride out without it it's like I've got a bloody turbo!!! No shit. Pretty funny really.

I don't own anything hi vis. I wear gear with reflective panels cos I can't stand hi vis.

Some people on here won't agree but i think that making so people can here you will then make them actually try to see you. since changing to an aftermarket exhaust I have seen a big difference in cars moving over when filtering and also pedestrians walking out in front of me.

The problem is, most drivers will look for around 2 seconds each way. Main thing they are looking for is cars. Hence the adverts about "think" bike because then you will most likely see it, if it is there. The loud exhaust gives the illusion of being closer and also makes them looks think 'what's that?'

Just my opinion on this but I've seen big changes with the exhaust...
