After reading all the threads here on the subject it's looking most likely to be the Vango Mirage 200. I will, of course, be attending the BBQ again this summer but have decided I no longer wish to impersonate Frank Gallagher passing out in a local park.
Is my choice the correct one dya think? ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

I can vouch for the materials it's made of as being robust and waterproof. I've had the models either side of that one (banshee 200 and halo 200) and they both perform very well.
Pack size is good. A tad on the heavy side but that's the pay-off for a self-supporting structure, you're essentially carrying an extra pole.
I find "end loading" ones to be a bit of a PITA these days, I do like a side-entrance.
Should be plenty of room for you + kit. I suspect it might be a tad cosy for two.
Pay attention to the instructions for which order you should insert then errect the poles on a semi-geodesic tent, get it wrong and they can be almost impossable.
Stick it up in the garden first, the inner hangs off the outer but once attached, you can just leave it there and errect it all in one. Knocks a good five minutes off the setup time/adds five minutes to the drinking time. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. No. You are a tall chap and would be better with a taller tent imo.
You have a nice powerful bike that will not balk at carrying something a little heavier.
https://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/vango-berkeley-500-tent.html
Go for that one. You still won't be able to stand up in it but you won't be far off, the sleeping space is huge so you can go across it diagonally and stretch your legs out and there's plenty of room to put all your gear as well.

Mirage 200 is a nice tent and I can sit-up in it, just but for similar money I bought a Vango Halo 200 and that is a cracking tent.
Like the mirage you can open it according to wind-direction. Unlike the mirage this is done by separate doors. Loads of room inside, storage pockets on each corner and a hanging loop for a lamp.
Once assembled first-time it can be packed-away for pitch-in-one and even goes back into the compression-sack it came out of!
Three aluminium poles, all the same length, so no pissing-about with colour-codes.
Overall, nice tent. Just don't pitch next to me if I go to the BBQ as I don't want you climbing over me in the night! ____________________ 22PlusY

What was it Henry Kissinger said about J Edgar Hoover? Better to have him in the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in.
Probably one of the few things that can be said about Hetzer *and* the head of the FBI. ____________________ "Life is a sexually transmitted disease and the mortality rate is one hundred percent."

Hi, I've got one of these and used it for a two week cycling tour last year. Slept two in it without being overly cramped, although it is snug it took all our gear as well. A good balance of weight/cost.
I think its a really good design and echo what stinkwheel said.
However, one of the eyelets for the poles failed after about 7 erections . Luckily it was on a pole point that had two eyelets. See photo.
I may have just been unlucky, it was repaired promptly and FOC through the online retailer. On inspection i'd say the eyelets all look a bit flimsy, the replacement one was much more robust looking. I think Ill be buying a few spare eyelets for this years trip. Also if it were me I would get something to put under the ground sheet.
For motorcycling I've always used eurohike tents from the Milletts sales. Cheap and adequate.
Hope this helps |

Cheers peeps. The Mirage is still looking the top bannana though. It's only for sleeping in mind, and at 225cm it's long enough. Probably longer at a slight diagonal position. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

Looks like a good choice. I've got this and I really rate it:
https://www.blacks.co.uk/activities/104728-karrimor-beta-2-man-tent.html
Pretty similar design ideas. Big enough for me and my girlfriend and a tiny pack size. Got it for £70 in a sale in 2011 and really rate it. Sadly it's only available for the fairly nuts price of £170 now... ____________________ Riding: BMW R1150RT `02 bought mildly crashed

How much for a bit of fabric and some poles
Have been thinking about tents. Sometime Id like to go as cheap as possible exploring round europe, so a tent would be perfect. Thinking of those tent-caravan extentions. I like the idea of using bike as a supporting part of tent if thats not a silly idea, ofcourse it'd want some kind of ground sheet. |

Banshee 200 is very low. Get an erection in the night and it'll gain a third pole! ____________________ 22PlusY

I use Tesco value tent.. Small when packed, not the lightest but it's water proof, wind proof, almost midge proof, quality build average probably not going to last but as it cost only 12 quid I treat it as disposable item ____________________ Current Bike: Yamaha XSR900 Previous bikes: Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja, Aprilia RS125 2-stroke |
