I am about to take possession of a Honda Lead 100 Scooter and I was wonder what are my options as regards to securing the scooter. Unfortunately I live in a flat with no access to a garage, although we do have private parking at the back of the flats. I was considering getting a chain and a disk lock, but the Honda Lead wheels have no spokes or disks as far as I know, so what would you professionals recommend??

Maybe a large cable lock round the footwell area and to a secure point, if there is one. A cover is highly recommended - out of sight, out of mind. Read somewhere that only a very small percentage of stolen bikes are covered.

Fill a large barrel full of wet cement, then put the scooter in it.

without knowing if its a 80s/90s bike i assumed it was the newer one, which has solid ish wheels as pictured with drum brakes front and rear

the newest ones are 110 cc and have 5 spoke alloys, and the first gen 80/90 machines had multispoke alloy thingys

untill you get the bike you probably wont know the best options, but im gonna back the chain the whole bike to something through the middle

I sold my Honda Lead 100 back in 2009 and replaced it with the 110. I gave the lock with the bike as I remember it was a nightmare to find a lock for it but there was a cable lock which just fits through the hole in the wheel. It was an Abus cable lock, but I can't remember the model number.

Just did a search on my own posts as I remember giving this info before back in 2007 on this forum. It's the Abus Centuro (level8) cable lock. The cable is 19mm and fits perfectly through but I think it is a bicycle lock, still I think it is secure enough and satisfied insurers that it is either Thatcham or Sold Secure approved. I also mentioned a Honda U lock which was quite expensive. The Abus lock cost me around £25 (6 years ago).

What floor do you live on.

Any near by family friends to store it at?

Is there space between the exhaust and frame for a thick chain, same for forks. Could weld a couple of strategically placed U brackets here and there to chain the bike up?

Find some DataTag stickers online and place them on the the bike, or even print them off and glue them on haha.

Buy Solar powered red flashing LED, stick it on the dash, place the little solar panel somewhere discreet, might fool some into thinking it has an alarm.

+1 for the bike cover and bungee cords

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll look into that.

On the plus side, we are moving at the weekend so I'll be able to store the bike in the out house at night. Just need something for the day and when I'm at work

As i had one i know where to lock it, chain it through the exhaust hanger or if you get on your back chain it through the frame or the front forks.
