hey all, my mate went to Perth today (capital of Western Australia) and purchased a 1999 model Honda VFR 800 with a new tyre on the back, a ventura gear rack and a bag of bits like a disc lock chain and other tools and things it had 12000km on it and payed $8500 for it. after he paid the money we went for a ride it was a really really hot day today and most uncomfortable amongst city crawling and in one hour a car pulled out from the other side of the traffic island into the right hand lane where we were riding and without as much as a head check just kept on moving over to the far left lane Shocked so basically just pushed my mate right over to the edge of the road, he only just made it out unscaved! then headed down to the beach for some lunch after getting pinged for speeding a little bit and showed my mate how to fit a disc lock, we finished our lunch and went to our bikes and got ready to ride off as my mate went to ride off he come to a sudden halt with a distinct PINGGG sound! CAHHHHHHHNT was all that was said immediately after! he has twisted the disc and broken the caliper retaining bracket and is stuck in Perth over night till the morning comes and has to fork out another $600 for repairs all from just forgeting about the disc lock and all this happened within the hour! remember the lock or feel like a co(k!

Don't you guys get those brightly coloured curly disc lock reminder things?

Least he'll remember in future....

I was in Perth today too. Perth, Scotland (15 mins ride from my house).

Live and learn eh?

So he left his disck lock on did he? Ouch nasty !!!!!

He should get a disk lock reminder, something like this:

https://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_ID=0&Category_ID=9&manufacturer_ID=38&product_ID=6287

I personally use mine sometimes, but I usally put the lock at the very back of the disc brake so that if I should happen to start to move the front wheel, it wont go anywhere i.e. the disc lock is already at the brake caliper so the bike won't move or gather up momentum.

Can still damamge the bike but I would hope its less likely...Smile

Alternatively, as a student I have a cheap and simple option.

Slide the little bag that the disc lock comes in over your throttle grip. Sorted Thumbs Up

Bit of a bugger when you forget though eh? Hopefully your friend will actually begin to enjoy his new bike from now on Very Happy

Thats a bad story, theres nothing worse than when something shitty ruins your good day. You get your new bike your on top of the world and then something insignificant brings you crashing down. At least its only money and noones hurt though Wink

My personal tip is to put your bike key inside the little bag and then put that in your pocket. If the keys there for the disc lock too then surely you cant forget!

cheers for that tip there annabella, ive broke serval speedo cables (as it connects right next to the damn disk) leaving the bloody lock on, and now the locks broke :S so ive given up using it, but that sounds like a good plan to me, although my luck the wind will blow it off and ill still ride away!
