Hi guys, I'll be popping up northbrook college monday to try and get myself in for a car mechanics course. Probably a bit late I know...

Thing is, I was home tutored, I have no prev qualifications. And as I'm 21, how would I go about getting a student loan, do the college supply it for you?

So when I go up to apply, is there any things in particular I will need to bring? Anything else I should look out for/need to do?

Cheers dudees! Smile

the college should/will have a student finance dept, ask your course interviewer if they can refer you there for a consultation on fee payments and appropriate grants/loans

dont sign for a course till you have the funding in place, it saves the hassle of having to cancel later

Is this Northbrook College in Sussex?

If so they have a finance department (01903 273014 or email sfs@nbcol.ac.uk) and speak to them. If its a Uni level course you can try applying with the Student Loans Company who handle all of the student loans. They aren't very good at what they do, mind. I paid off my loan already (took me 9 years, woo!) and they still kept taking cash from me Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, yeah try the college first Thumbs Up

If you don't have any official qualifications the college may be able to offer you the chance to do them or the equivalent of them if the course insists on GCSE's etc.

It's the shoreham one, and cheers. I'll have to ask when I go down monday. Would they be able to secure me the loan and sign me up there and then?

It's just the level 1 car mechanics, college not uni, so no entry requirements needed.

Looking forwards to monday, quite nervous mind!
