Hey BCF'ers Smile

I'm looking at getting some Jaybird Freedom earphones. They're bluetooth in-ears and I'd use them with my phone for SatNav, and listening to music.

Just wondering if anybody has any experiences with bluetooth earphones whilst riding, how do they perform? If anybody knows anything about specific models, please let me know.

Please do not suggest "Just get some cheap wired/sennheisers" or similar, as I'm really not into the idea of screwing around with wires going in and out of my helmet, unless I'm using an intercom.

Any info anyone has would be much appreciated!

My mate and I bought one of the Viper blue tooth helmets and can say they work pretty good. They are the latest blue tooth 4 technology and they also do the headsets to match for about £80. Got ours off a shop on E-bay.

I've always found the headphones that go in to your ear to be quite painful compared to conventional ones.

Also I've found that the headphone wires really aren't a faff at all.

The only bad part is that music tends to influence riding somewhat. Laughing

About the musical influence part, I was wondering that. I am gonna be using my ipod on the bike for the first time tomorrow and will have to resist dancing whilst driving! Dance!

Errrr you don't drive a bike Shocked
I've had a jabra bt3030 for around 5 years now. It might have been replaced but its cheap enough and let's you have the phone free from wires and comes with some half decent headphones but if you don't like those you can use any. I use mine for running and as a hands free kit/playing music in the car.

I don't find dancing so much of an issue as wanting to go stupidly fast where you shouldn't and take more risks. Laughing

Ahh, thanks! I'll probably go with this, just need to think of a way to get it snug in my helmet somewhere Razz

EDIT: Found this, Jabra Clipper... Looks like the same thing, only cheaper and a little sexier.. No mic, but I don't need that Smile.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jabra-Clipper-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset/dp/B003D24Z1M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1365980830&sr=8-1&keywords=jabra+clipper

EDIT2: Poor reviews on the Jabra Clipper, another option is the Sony Ericsson MW600, looks like a much better alternative due to build quality issues on the Jabra Clipper. Just noting in case anyone else needs the same question answering in future and finds this!

I have the Sony MW600, and must say I'm impressed with the sound quality. The only gripe I have is the 'touch panel' volume control is not very responsive. I haven't tried them while riding yet, but I plan to on trips where I need to use my phone as a sat nav.

I have been looking around for the same kinda thing. I'v got some cheap £30 Sony buds which pretty much go all the way into my ear but after around 3 or 4 hours of wearing them it does get a little painful.

I will buy a bluetooth set up once I find the right one for me. I need it to be loud and have a good battery life.

Me and Stiffler recently got a pair of Sena bluetooth smh10 for a planned tour in europe later in the year. They use velcro type pads on the inside of your helmet, once you mount it you can forget about it.

He uses his to commute with and the battery lasts all week on a single charge with the commute taking about 30mins there and 30 mins back. Works well with Siri on the iphone, you just hit the button on the back and speak a command in.

I've tried it for music and can hear it music with earplugs in upto about 80-90mph, then wind noise drowns them out.

I've used in ear type buds such as those seinheiser ones in the past for music and they are a bit of a faff, falling out sometimes, snagging cables etc. The Sena are well worth the money in my opinion. They also do a smh5 which are slightly cheaper but are more for pillion to rider use. Ok if all you want to do is use it for music and satnav though.

if you can suffer the wires https://www.ultimateear.com/products/soundear.php are the best and treat your ears like a BOSS!

thats if you can stomach the £170 price tag and the fact they are wires

i bought these and and am happy with them custom earplugs/earphones are the best

They seem to be loud enough at normal speeds although if my mates visor is open it is difficult to hear him. Volume control is easy with gloves on as it is just a slight twist back or forth and turning it on or off is just a push of the button on the side of the helmet.

This months edition of Ride has a feature on Bluetooth headsets for your helmet. It might be worth a read. From what I can see the bluetronic evo headset/intercom might be worth a look https://bluetronics.co.uk/headset_evo_intercom.htm

And the Bluetronics unit looks identical to the BT Interphone set I got from Amazon for £60 for a twin pack shipped from China last year.

Had one of the charging points come loose inside the unit which cost me £8 to ship it back to china to get it fixed but the bluetooth functionality has been fine. Bit annoying only being able to have one device active at a time but call quality for taking and making mobile calls has been fine. Speakers are ok for the price and considering the wind noise in the helmet its been fine. Volume adjustment is a little oversensitive with ipod skipping to next track if you rotate the dial too much.
