IMO the vast majority of these disclosures are a breach of the DPA, since details can only be shared for the "prevention and detection of crime". A civil dispute over parking charges is not a crime.

Last week my wife got her so called Parking Charge Notice through the letterbox.. It was from Euro Car Parks.. She overstayed in supermarket car park by about two hours. She did quick shopping in the supermarket, but there is hospital nearby where she had her appointment on that day and they kept her there a bit longer than expected (she was 37 weeks pregnant).

ECP want 90 quid. or 50 if I pay within 14 days. I laughed and told my wife not too worry. Awaiting more threatening letters from ECP now.

I was quite surprised that it was addressed to me though. Not happy that DVLA just sold my details to them.

Way hey, guess who used to work for them.

Usual advice; ignore all letters and after a couple months they will stop.
If you or your Mrs are getting a bit worried, go into the supermarket and demand to speak with the manager and rant at him and he will just cancel it.

Insider tip; the 'patrol officer' will have his car parked on the supermarket carpark somewhere and he will periodically take breaks in it and if you see him getting in and out of his car well heck wouldn't it be a shame if the air was let out of his tyres or something?
Just sayin'...

Funny how the Mail has got a picture of a clamper, with the slogan "Companies are able to employ clampers using details purchased from the DVLA"

Err, clamping is illegal under the Protection of Freedoms Act.. from October 2012.

One of my mates got a fine from 'Parking Eye' for staying in Aldi car park a bit too long.
She told me she got a letter about it, and i told not to pay as they cant do anything if you dont.
