Hi, well it's been a while. Very Happy

Since I got disqualified back in 2011 for a TT99, (totting up of points) and sold my Honda Bros, I've been without my own transport (bus wanker Rolling Eyes).... Until now!! Mr. Green

Looks like I'll be able to get to the BCF BBQ 2013 after all!

My dad agreed to transfer his SR500 to me so that we can have a bike each and then ride each others under the "can ride another bike not registered to me or hire purchase etc" clause. (He has a Transalp aswell) Real-world karma to that man! Just look at it. Making girls knickers fall off since 1978. (I have yet to test this theory...but I personally think its the coolest thing ever Smile )

So I'm taking it for an MOT tomorrow morning, gonna go up to the Post Office as soon as its done and get a tax disk. Then I'll be off. Few more pictures just for the sake of it...

Notice the complete lack of: battery, electric start, keyed ignition, chrome....also the huge hole in the middle... The red garage floor kind of emphasizes it a bit I think.

So what do you guys think? Comments welcome, especially if you have owned one of these before. Any common niggles I should be checking for?

Congratulations on getting back on the road Very Happy I love simple bikes, and this one looks to be both simple and pretty fast. Hope to see you at the BBQ!

She passed the MOT this morning without a hitch, although I found it pretty funny when the guy asked for my keys and I had to explain to him that it ran total-loss ignition (I'm assuming that's what it is) and he just had to kick it over.

Cue him trying to start it for 10 minutes while we chatted about bikes. Eventually I stepped in as he was getting pretty winded Twisted Evil .

Just been and got myself a tax disk. Now I'm gonna head out into the Lakes and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts Cool .

Thanks Sam and Trev, definitely simple is the way forward. Fast, not so much, I wouldn't want to do more than about 80 anyway but at high speeds it does get very vibey. Shocked

Sako, whats the purpose of the exhaust wrapping? I've seen it on a few bike of this style. Is it just to stop you leaving melted flesh on the zorst when you go out riding in three-quarters? (Actually did see a guy doing this last year, on an R6 aswell Rolling Eyes ) Or is it more of a cosmetic thing?

Gonna go get some more piccys now anyway. I'll be taking a very sedate ride round the mountains while I get used to actually being back on a bike, so I'll try and get some with nice backgrounds.

Feels so good to be back on the road! Razz

It retains heat in the downpipes, especially at speed, which (supposedly) creates an easier flow for the gasses exiting the engine. Therefore increased performance due to being able to get fuel in and out more efficiently, apparently.

Mostly though it looks cool on the right type of bike.

Cool thanks for the info Matt. I'm guessing its the same sort of stuff they wrap round boilers. Could be something I'll think about in the future.

Anyway I survived my first rideout...just Laughing It feels very different to the Honda I had before. With the Bros you can lean into a bend and it feels rock solid, like you could hit ten potholes and it would just settle back into the same line. With this it's more like you're sitting on one of those tiny clown bicycles! Laughing The front end was feeling a little bit sketchy, and the front brake was barely working at all, no sponginess in the lever but it wasn't doing its job of slowing me down. Confused

Got home and checked her over, guess what I found... Left hand side fork is leaking fork oil all over the disk Shocked. So that why it wasnt working. Looks like its time for some new seals...and while I'm at it I might as well give the whole thing a clean and see what else I can find that needs fixing/bodging/replacing.

This will be the first time I've rebuilt any forks, so I'm going to document my progress in this thread. Ordered the seals online, shall update when they get here.

Kind of, you get specific exhaust wrap for bikes. Needs soaking sometimes to soften it up then it moulds to the shape of the pipes better.
