whats a good price for wheel bearing to be removed by a garage?

front.
40 mins front @ main dealer @£65/hour +vat = £51
back street @ £35/hour =£23

80 mins Rear @ main dealer @£65+vat = £103
back street @35 = £46

plus what ever the bearings cost say £20

not that I would pay someone to do it for me.

Hammer and a good sized drift. Why on earth would you willingly pay your hard earned cash for that? I take it its buggered anyway so it hardly matters if you screw it up.

Mine got replaced free of charge when I had my front tyre changed. My fitter at Chris Mullens in Gloucester spun the wheel on the axle after reinstalling and took it off, told me to take the delivery van to the Branson Honda and fetch it! THAT's service and a half. Took the wheel back out, pressed the bearings and refitted the tyre all gratis.

Tools required, careful, very hi-tech.

Push the inner sleeve to one side by levering with the drift. This exposes a bit of the bearing face on the opposite side.

Give it a wham with your hammer.

Lever the inner sleeve the opposite direction and expose the bearing face 180 degrees across, give that a whack as well. It's possible to get a bearing out in as little as 3 blows this way.

Once the bearing is out, remove the sleeve and you've got total access to the remaining bearing.

Please post me a cheque for £51 (45 for cash).
