Estimated mileage (insurance)?

When I initially took out my policy, I gave an estimated mileage of 5000 miles.
Well I've already done 5800 and the insurance runs out next month.
I'm also planning on riding up to college as the train is really starting to grind on me, so will probably have done near to 7000 miles by the end of the policy.

I rang my insurer and said I might need to extend it from 5k to 7k and they said it would cost £30!

So should I pay the £30 or leave it since it runs out next month?

I thought 'estimated' meant exactly that and it didn't matter if you went a couple thou over?
Also I'm only TPO so I'm not exactly going to be claiming for anything.

It's an estimation. I did around 7k on my 5k policy last insurance year. I've just renewed at 4k because I said "I'm not planning on doing as many miles this year".

Also; are you sure it was you that did all the miles?

For instance, you might have leant it to a friend (who is insured to ride of course) to do a decent trip on it.

I wouldn't have thought it would make much difference if you said 10k to be safe.
My policy has 2 bikes on it and i said 60k for each and it's only £385.

My insurance says I'm doing 999 miles or less and I have so far far done about 6,000 and I'm not even half way through the policy.

You haven't done 5,800 miles though. You've only done 4,999 miles. Your brother in law, who also has a motorbike and is insured to ride other peoples bikes with the owner's permission, borrowed your bike while his was in the shop. He racked up 801 miles on it, remember?

Oh, hey, his bike is back in the shop again. Seems he'll be borrowing yours again. I'd bet he'll end up racking up another 1,200 miles while he's using it too.

My ins was cheaper with a higher milage, then it was a lower one.....

£30 will be the admin charge. So upping the milage is not costing anything.

Next time double your annual milage.

Why give the Ins a chance to decline a claim, by not telling the truth.
This is data they can easily obtain via the MOT online.
