The headers on my ZRX1100 are each held on with two-part collars. Guess how much each part costs to buy? £15. I need eight so that's 8 x £15. For pissy pieces of metal THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE ROTTED IN THE FIRST PLACE! You kawasaki jap cocksuckers. Mad

Guess how much the scum want for each nut? £1.82 (x 8). For a nut. I can use other nuts, obviously, but the collars are unique.

So I guess I won't be cleaning up all that area after all. Thanks Kawasaki, for not only making those parts out of cheese but also for being dollar-whoring sub-human fucking filth and charging an obscene amount for them. I hope the parts hold out for the forseeable.

Tell me about it. I've just parted with £300 to get my exhaust sorted out. If Kawasaki fitted stainless steel headers in the first place then i wouldn't be sat here typing this... Rolling Eyes

Are pattern bits not available? Not at all surprised at those prices. Been quoted some absolutely ludicrous figures for small bits and pieces over the years.

These cunning fuckers know what they're doing - you can't tell me they couldn't knock those collars up using some kind of non-corroding material.

I've searched everywhere, no joy.

I've had a closer look at the parts on the bike and after going at them with a screwdriver to get through the rust it looks like I'll be able to reuse them.

If we had consumer law worthy of the name we'd be able to prosecute these scum for fraud.

Obviously totally missing the point of the thread but if you're still on the stock headers then they are very heavy and restrictive. Time to upgrade to a full system? I have a Hindle Ti system and just had to replace the collars after 40,000 miles of abuse - £50 for the set of 4 and the nuts were free from PDQ.

Kawasaki are a bit cheeky with replacement parts though. I just had to replace a bottom rear shock nut and bolt. £10.62 posted Shocked.

Had something similar with my yammy. I needed a new indicator bulb, so off I pop to my local shop to buy one. Only cost 50p, great I thought. Gets home and tries to fit it but, it won't go into place. I then realise that the two little pins that stick out don't line up. I go back to the shop to change the bulb to one were the pins are offset. Turns out I need to buy an official yamaha bulb (which is why they offset them) and instead of 50p, that'll be £12.80 please sir Mad

That's still cheap compared to the robbing bastards at BMW, I've just had to spend £600 on a new subframe and £200 for a clutch cover. Added to the £350 for a sprag clutch, £200 for a front brake hose.

One thing you can get away with is not paying over inflated costs for is bearings and seals which can be brought from on-line for less than half what dealers charge.

I spent £8 on six Triumph exhaust studs and six nuts. I thought that was a lot.

Man - I am really surprised that bike is rusty anywhere, headers or otherwise. I think I remember when you bought it - from up near York was it? Not *that* long ago iirc. It looked mint as fuck!! Gleaming, I thought. Wasn't it not long restored? What're you doing dude - riding it on the beach down there?? At high tide??

Kawasaki's are, in my opinion, the worst of the Jap bikes, especially for rust protection.

The number of parts i've had to cut off my bike because of studs, bolts or hangers turning to cheese is so numerous I don't even count them anymore. Doing maintainance, I actively find myself expecting to have to cut parts off not unscrew them. Even parts like the screws that hold the cap on the front brake fluid reservoir... should have been simple to unscrew, instead the hex head rounded itself off, had to cut a groove in each bolt and hammer an impact driver into the newly made groove to get them to budge. Not to mention;

Frame growing holes all over despite ACF everywhere for the entire duration of ownership.
Rear swingarm growing holes.
Exhaust bolts rusting into block and needing to be cut out and redrilled.
Tank rusting internally.

Basically because they don't salt the roads over in Nippon they assume the domestic rust protection will be fine overseas- unlike brands like Yamaha who add extra rust protection to the bikes they export to Europe.

End rant.

Kwak parts are notoriously expensive.

Can't you measure them and get the bits laser cut?

They are like a bit of tube with a flare on the end and split down the middle yes?

Give me the sizes and I might be able to make some nice stainless ones. No promises, but I have made them before. Be warned though, if you disturb the headers you might find it hard to get them fully sealed again even with new washers, and the flare on the end of the header tubes might also have rotted.

Years ago Kawasaki wanted £75 for the nut on the end of the clutch for a GPZ1000RX. My local motor shop made one by sticking a FIAT wheel hub nut on a lathe for 50p.
