I'm planning a trip up to Applecross. Do you get those roadside coffee/butty wagons in Scotland. Or are they just an English/Welsh thing?

It's a while since I've been over Applecross road but I don't remember any roadside food vans on that route.

You'll find the odd one here and there, maybe not as many as down south but I'm sure you won't starve, plenty of good food in pubs and cafes. Failing that, we've got very high quality road kill up here. Wink

Great roads all over the west coast, you'll be too busy having fun to worry about eating.

Very Happy Hi Alan 29, I live in Kinlochewe near Applecross, there is unfortunately no tea or burger vans in the area to answer your question, there is however plenty of small cafe's in Lochcarron and Kinlochewe ( The whistle Stop ) and a roadside cafe at Rogie Falls, are best, also there are hotels that have good food as well, Applecross hotel itself is fantasic, and can recomend Strathcarron hotel, Owner is a biker himself, has a BIKE mag sign on the wall of hotel, also for your info, there are plenty of campsites around or bunk houses, or you can wild camp if you fancy, plenty B&B's as well, or if really flush hotels, have a nice Safe time when you are here Thumbs Up

I'll be staying at the Strathcarron hotel - it looks good. Weather is looking not quite so good.
Thanks for that info. I am planning on riding up from the Loch Lomond area, overnighting at the Strathcarron, and the following day going over to Applecross and back down to Loch Lomond by a different route.

In a couple of weeks. Going up via Glencoe and Fort William pretty direct route, 170 miles. Returning via Oban and round that bit of coast , 230 miles. I will see how I feel about going to Applecross either when I arrive, or when I leave. I'm hoping those mileages will let me see a bit of the scenery and not just rush through it. But most of all I'm hoping it gets a bit warmer between now and then.

Thumbs Up cool, Fort William, Connel, Oban is a nice run you'll enjoy it, If you haven't been to Applecross bealach you'll enjoy that to, just be aware it is very steep near the top with 90 deg hairpins and corners as well as being narrow single track road, snow up there at the moment but the road is clear, on your return leg instead of going staight back to Ft William, a very nice alternative, time dependant of course, would be to nip on to Skye, down to Armadale catch the ferry to Mallaig and on to Ft William, thats a cracker of a road, bike wise and for scenery, or again time dependant, when you come back down from Applecross, turn left at the junction onto the A896 and head for Sheildaig/Torridon/Kinlochewe, turn Right onto the A832 and head for Achnasheen go through round about and head for garve, VERY FAST road, at Garve junction turn right onto the A835 and head for Contin, about 2.5 mls further on turn right onto the A832, head for Muir of Ord turn right at the T junction, head for Beauly, about 3mls after Beauly turn right onto the A833 and head for Drumnadrochit onto the A82 and onto Ft William, it should take you about 3.5 - 4 hrs that way ( Applecross junction to Ft William ), anyway enjoy yourself when you come up here. Thumbs Up
