This is either going to be a huge flop and i will get a ton of abuse from those uninterested by football, or more optimistically, this can be a thread for those interested and want to talk football? Or at least we can use this as a platform were we can take the piss out of others simply because of the team they support.

So why not start all this off by saying what football team you support, and we can take it from there. This then, allows others to take the piss when you get relegated/player gets a 10 match ban for taking a nibble/lose ect.

I will try an edit the original post so its an easy to see what user name supports what team. eh?! just an idea.

Supporter of my local team, the mighty Gills. This season we won the League 2 title - our second 4th tier success, nearly 50 years after the last one. The first in my lifetime.

Can just about stomach lower league football. Can't abide PL any more. Things have just got more and more ridiculous in recent years, with completely insane wages and all sorts other nonsense, like managers being sacked for going a month without a win.

A bit dramatic to say the least...but drama makes it more exciting?

The wages is something i have no control over. The only thing that would result in a fall in wages if the vast number of viewers fell.

As long as its not my team that is sacking a manager every month its just more banter lol.

I wish lower leagues made it on tv. Its hard to follow a lower league team if your not able to go to the games.

Didn't think of that.

But after the end of the season the transfer market drama opens, nothing like a bit of speculation.

I support none. I have the fortune of working around and knowing fans of Man U, some very long term bitter blues (City), Stockport County, Liverpool, Everton and others. Despite having zero interest in football, a minor glimpse of the morning's tabloids or earwigging of the current banter has me enjoying ripping the piss out of whoever is currently on the receiving end, and can provide hours of amusement.

I don't really get the whole 'supporting' thing.

What does that even mean? I don't support Rossi or Stoner when I watch MotoGP, I like the contest.

Especially when people support teams that are both a) not their home team and b) crap, how does that work? Arbitrary choice?

If you don't support a team then you are purely watching football to watch the skill that these men (and women..........) have, watching the technique the finesse ect. When you support a team then you get more interested in the team, more interested in how your team is doing, and the skill behind the players takes a set back.

..Thats also why people support lower league teams, which are generally with less skilled players.

I don't understand why everyone berates the players for earning bucket loads. Sure they're thought to be a bit on the two short planks side, but they are getting a fair wage for their skill. And when I say fair wage - their skill is the thing that makes all the money in football, they're the 22+ that people pay to see each week, why shouldn't they take their cut? Or should it all just go to the board and the executives for their great talent at sacking managers?

Edit: Teams Scunthorpe United & Manchester United

Port Vale...Will be back in league 1 after a few years with the new owners making big noises about going straight back to the Championship. As a point to the Gills fan 1, well done on your team who are worthy champs and 2, did you know you can follow the lower leagues on The Football League show on BBC hd after Match of the Day Sat Nights?

Up the Vale!

You have a small elite of players who do earn whatever they're paid. People like Lionel Messi. The guy is a magician with a ball. You have decent players who pretty much carry their team, like Steven Gerrard, who are probably also worth what they're paid. But you also have complete fucksticks like Joey Barton and an endless stream of foreigners who do very little to earn their keep.

Ticket prices are insane. That's the case because players are paid so much. Wages are overwhelmingly the biggest expense of football clubs, many of which have huge debts and teeter increasingly close to liquidation (Rangers are a perfect case in point). You go to watch a match, you have prima donnas diving all over the place, a generally poor standard of entertainment and are ripped off in every direction as soon as you walk through the turnstile.

IMHO, there should be a global maximum wage enforced by FIFA. And much more stringent financial restraints to stop clubs like Chelsea and Man City buying league titles and undermining fair play with ludicrous salaries.

Going better then expected Thumbs Up

Bloody surprised with the number of lower league teams that people are supporting.

I guess i would then add, that im a Barnet supporter, not doing great in league two.....3rd last, but as long as we stay up all's good!

Edit, guess i got my first neg since joining the forum....Somewhat expected, football isn't everyone's cuppa' tea.

I didn't know that Shocked Thanks for the heads up.

Was nice to see the Gills finally win a bit of silverware. I do think you enjoy it more when you support a club that rarely wins anything and is generally regarded as a bit shit by non-believers Laughing

With regards to ticket prices, i agree its way too high. £45 for a ticket is a bit much to say the least.

Tottenham's new stadium will hopefully bring in a standing zone, if they can get round the 100's of health and safety rules. Much like in Germany (IIRC), they want to have a section, with £15 tickets, standing only ect, i bloody hope it gets passed, but its very unlikely.
