Does anyone know of a source for these connectors in the UK?
They should be inexpensive but I can only seem to find them like here:

I just need the connectors with a short tail really.
They seem much more used in the USA

They have them here for $3.25 pair but don't ship outside US, in any case it's hard to believe you can't get them here.

Have you tried BuyBits.com - clicky link.

Link above is a search on SAE so you'll have to look for the lead you want.
There may be others that didn't immediately appear in the results.

The optimate one may work if you're using solar bit to charge a battery.
Found on amazon.co.uk (click link).

There's also a cable extension on there (different supplier) - click here and one with a different connector type at the other end - click here

Thanks for hints, they seem to be used for Optimate chargers, some radios and CBs too,
Best option so far seems to be the ebay one I highlighted
Similar to the Maplin one - https://www.maplin.co.uk/3m-solar-extension-cable-511177

FYI came across a Y connector so you can split to 2 devices if that's needed. 3m cable for £10 (+£4.75 p&p Shocked ) UK seller clicky link here.
They may have other leads that meet your need.

Also FYI
Wikipedia wrote:
The SAE connector is a hermaphrodite two-conductor, DC connector commonly used for automotive applications (also motorcycles). It is so named for the Society of Automotive Engineers who created its specifications.

This connector is typically used for applying a maintenance charge to a vehicle battery. The polarity of the connector, when installed in a vehicle and attached to a battery, is always such that no short circuit will occur if the exposed terminal were to touch the vehicle chassis. In most vehicles, this means that the exposed terminal connects to the negative terminal of the battery. Conversely, the positive terminal on a battery charger is exposed, to mate with the concealed one on the vehicle side...
So look for it in automotive accessory places too rather than solar type stuff. As said in post above generally used to connect vehicle to a trailer or to connect to battery charger.

In searching for these again I found my own thread, this is the best I have found if you want to have this tucked behind a panel to attach a trickle charger.
https://www.quadbikeswales.co.uk/12v-waterproof-fused-battery-connector-sae.html

You can also use the outlet to attach a USB socket e.g. to charge phone or camera.

e.g. this, but there are probably cheaper options
