are the gopro's WORTH the extra money over drift and such ? i am going to get one as i find my self often in situation i would rather not be in, and figure best to start recording my journeys, as i am taking the kids to blackpool and such in august, i am also thinking of using the gopro on the rides and rollercoatsers and such so i can keep it so they have it to look back on, opinions would be great, cheers

Based on reviews I've read I would go with a drift myself but I think any of the three big brands (including contour) would provide pretty good footage.

There was a recent scandal story about GoPro which put a lot of people off.

Found it now,

Something to do with a bad review and GoPro going legal to take it down. Confused

Personally i use a chinese 808 keycam (#16) with a wide angle lens, no its not gopro quality, but for £20 odd i dont give a shit! and if it falls off and destroys itsef, i dont have to spend £300 on a new one!

Only negative with these cams is A) manual adjust lens ( which i had f**ked about with prior to shooting this clip) and B) batterys are hit and miss. I soldered on a mobile phone battery and now records 4 1/2 hours at 720p with 10mbps transfer rate.

The bouncers will prevent you from using your camera whilst on such rides.

i think the gopro has the best image quality of all the top brands, but personally i could never have one mounted on me or the bike without feeling like a knob and i imagine the wind bast at anything over 60mph would try and pull my head off, if mounted to the helmet. Hardly subtle are they Laughing

If i were in the market for a camera i would go for one of the drift models. Much more suited to biking i think and far less obvious

Don't like GOpro's they always look like you have a brick planted on top of your helmet. The drift is pretty much the same quality wise and its also smaller, the drift also has a nice remote which you can strap to your self or bike.

I think they have noticeably better image quality than the competition but personally I like the stealthy look of Drift cameras.

Side by side of contour, drift and gopro. I'd still go with the drift.

Here's my 2 pence:

GoPro: For them awesome shots you want to be in best quality possible, but a little clumsy to set up at first.

Drift: For "proper" helmet cam footage with solid quality and ease of use (dat rotating lens yo).

Contour: As a helmet cam for daily use (small size catches less air) and piss easy to start/stop.

You buy the cam for the purpose. Drift sounds it'll fit you the best.

I just got a Drift (stealth) and I've been very pleased with the results, I used a GoPro on an old helmet and wind noise and buffeting was far more apparent with the GoPro.

Quality wise they are both pretty similar, better, more natural colour with the Drift IMHO, but that does depend on light, better night-time performance with the GoPro.

Wotcha.

Drift gets my vote too - bought one about a month or so back and I'm more than pleased with it.
