Z1000SX is called Ninja1000 here.
Burgman is called Skywave here.
I don't know why they change names by areas, do you think Ninja1000 or Skywave funny or strange? How do you think if they were sold as Ninja1000 and Skywave also in Europe?

it's just one of those things - you get used to hearing something called one name, go to a different region and it's called something else so it 'sounds strange'.
i'm used to hearing the name Burgman so Skywave sounds really peculiar and stupid to me!

I also think "Burgman" sounds cooler than "Skywave".
They should change name into Burgman also here.
Lots of people here call skywave as "suka-buu-" and makes it more worse..

i'm in Scotland and i think i'd call it a Ninja Thou' (like Gixxer Thou') as well just because Zed-One-Thousand-Ess-Ex is a bit cumbersome.

"Skywave" sounds like one of those poorly translated names. it may have sounded super cool in Japanese but when put through Google translator it came out sounding like some douchey thing out of a sci-fi flick.

not uncommon to fix names to bikes for different markets

the old bulbous ZX10, the one after the GPZ1000RX was called "tomcat" in the states

and GPX600/750's were called "warbird"

OP - we get used to products here being known by other names, seems our products names are bought inline with the yanks and europhiles.
I believe it all started for us when our beloved 'marathon' bar became a 'snickers' (something we Brits used to associate with a sly type of laugh). This was followed by 'Oil of Ulay' morphing into 'Oil of Olay' and, most laughably, our best known non-scouring formula cleaning cream 'jif' becoming a rather delightful STD (cif) - something to do with Johnny foreigner's inability to make a 'jay' sound, so we're told?????

More recently we've been deprived of the name of one of the largest car producers in the world (Daewoo) because, we're told, non Japanese Far Eastern cars aren't that popular - and, hey presto, all their imports are rebadged with a far more familiar name to us Brits, that of the well known American subsidary of Daewoo, Chevrolet.

Maybe when Johnny foreigner pulls his socks up and learns to speak proper English like wot the civilised world does, innit, then we may see universal product naming Wink

We never got the Mazda Miata or the Mazda Bongo Friendee.

We never got the Honda Hawk or the Honda Hawk GT.

it works both ways though, the Vauxhall Nova didn't sell that well in Spain as "Va" means "Go".
and the Mexicans weren't keen on the Ford Pinto as Pinto was local slang for a donkey's cock.

YOU SHUT UP. YOU SHUT UP FOREVER.

You mean when they stopped making Marathons, and there was no acceptable substitute until Lidl provided us with Mr Choc Peanut Chocos.

Mmm, Mr Choc, Mr Choc, that name again is Mr Choc.

It was the F, States only. Had 14 more BHP than the UK version but the camshafts still melted in the sun.

Skywave sounds much cooler, Burgman sounds miserable.

It's like the old bloke in the office that no one talks to have smells faintly of cabbage. "I can't be arsed with all this admin" "Don't worry just give it to Burgman"

The best name change, for me, is a car one unfortunately.

Mitsubishi decided that naming their new sportscar after a male horse (in the style of the Ford Mustang) would be a good move. Unfortunately, after a humourous mispronounciation issue between Japanese and Western marketing departments, what we got was the Mitsubishi...Starion.

Some name changes, for marketing bullshit reasons, I can kind of understand, but some, I just don't get. Like RD350/RZ350, what is the point of that?

https://www.snopes.com/business/misxlate/starion.asp

Snopes says "dunno". But point out that they really did call a car the "Lettuce" and the "Pajero" (which is Spanish slang for "wanker"), so its perfectly possible.
