what do you do ??

personally I have two to tick off
base jump (not hard to achieve) and to fly in space (now possible in a year or two)

I never thought that I could afford a space trip, but if the press are correct (that will be a first)
Virgin are taking bookings for 120K ish (10% deposit) gives me hope I can tick all of mine off
well almost, but visiting every country on earth is a bit of a stretch and cheaper to go into orbit Thumbs Up

If you outlive your bucket list, the best thing to do is make a new one, I reckon.

Although I've still not even made the first one...
What *do* I want to do before I snuff it?

That Richard Branson, what a card he is.

Don't see the point in spending a fortune to possibly go on a spaceship trip that might not happen before I die.

I'd want to come back from it alive, so I think I'd rather let the first few (hundred) depart safely and carefully with *other* intrepid passengers, before I bothered to check myself in for that one.

My Bucket List:

- Buy a house
- Have some kids
- Get to ultimate peak fitness
- Learn to paraglide
- Learn to kite surf
- Snowboard Alaska
- Learn to scuba dive
- Learn to play an instrument
- Learn to knee down a bike
- Learn to wheelie a bike
- Do some outdoor climbing on some crags
- Buy a spares/repair bike, pull it apart and rebuild
- Start my own business in something I enjoy


There is more but can't think at the moment.

At the grand old age of 35 I'm about half way through my bucket list without really trying, most of which I've ticked off in the past decade or so. I think I'm just going to have to reach a bit higher.

This.

Finishing your bucket list shows that the list wasn't ambitious enough in the first place. It should be a constantly mutating thing anyway, surely as you check one thing off it will often lead to new things being added? Mine certainly does. Any 'learn to ....' has a logical development unless simply attaining the basic level at which you can say 'I can do that' is enough for you.

I thought getting into space was a pretty high ambition, could maybe add getting my footprint on the moon

I suppose it depends what your bucket list was for. If it's a mechanism you use to force yourself to experience and achieve more, then it's important to keep adding to it. If it's simply the yardstick you're going to use on your deathbed to convince yourself you lived life to the full then just finish it and admire all the ticks in their boxes.

Some things lend themselves to further pursuit. Others are less quantifiable. Learning to ride was on my bucket list, for example. I've done that and there's nothing I feel I need to add other than to keep riding and improve. So although it's something I want to keep doing there's no bucket-list item for it. On the other hand, learning to scuba dive was also on the list. After I did my OW and AOW it naturally spawned other bucket list items like "dive with sharks" (done) "dive on a big wreck" (done) "dive on the Great Barrier Reef" (to do) etc. Whereas "be better on the bike" is a difficult one to tick-off. Some people might want to get into trackdays, racing leagues, mechanics. Not me. I can ride and I'm happy to just ride now.

Easy to put a couple of pretty non-achievable things on there so you never finish it.

The point was, you asked what you do when you out live your list. I would say that is a sign that you need a new hobby.

It's sad that we have to have one at all. Did Ernest Hemingway, WG Grace & IK Brunel have bucket lists? Unlikely. Did they each achive more than I could in ten lifetimes? We'll see.
