I researched it, two-three years back for Snowie's Pup. There's probably four or five places in the UK that offer fork re-chroming. Has to be ground 'hard-chrome' a slightly different process to show-plating. Prices were much of a much the same for basic plate & grind, around £150, a pair.
Almost a fixed price irrespective of make, model or type of bike; cost in the job is the man-hours and setting up, so how thick the tubes or how long made no odds to the price, and doing a pair of legs for a 125 Super-Dream was as expensive as for a Super-Blackbird.
Usually cheaper to buy New if stancions available; and safer, as theres assurance that legs aren't stressed or bent, and no possibility that when De-Chromed, the old fork tubes will have any irregularities that strop them being re-chromed, or the process failing.
Aprently the yeild on rechrome, ie the % of old forks that can successfully be reconditioned is fairly high, but its not 100%; of chrome has gone and steel tube underneath is too badly rusted, or peeneed from stone strike or whatever, they cant be salvaged.
New OE; New Old Stock; Better Second hand; are three alternatives best bottomed out before ecconomics of re-chrome is worth it ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

I'd be having words with them about that. That's shoddy to say the least. |

Had exactly the same thing with my TDM. ABE's Forks are shit.
They were really shitty with me about the warranty too, took them ages of arguing to get them to replace them even then they didn't they rechromed them and where shity again a year later.
With the cost of replacing all the seals AGAIN and the bike off of the road I wished I have bought OEM ones.
I have OEM ones now. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.
Skudd:- Perhaps she just thinks you are a window licker and is being nice just in case she becomes another Jill Dando.
WANTED:- Fujinon (Fuji) M42 (Screw on) lenses, let me know if you have anything. |
