Ok i've decided the route i want to go touring..

I've nicknamed it the carrot due to the shape of it...

Heres my average planned schedule, days spent sightseeing etc aren't counted.

Day 1, set off early from Essex to The Peak District (200 Miles)
Camp for the night? (Wild camp?)
Day 2, pack up and set off for The Lake District (130 Miles)
Camp again for the night.
Day 3, pack up and set off for The Yorkshire Moors (130 miles)
Passing through The Yorkshire Dales.
Camp again
Day 4, Pack up and head back home to Essex (260 Miles)


Approx distance/time: 709 mi – about 20 hours 49 mins


I was thinking of perhaps finding a good spot around 130 miles or so between The Yorkshire Moors and Essex and perhaps camping another night? Depends how tired i am and time restraints.
Any ideas? Anyone fancy doing this tour with me? Time wise thinking August/September, maybe earlier.

seems like your spending all your time just geting to the places - and not riding around them - worth staying 2 nights in the lakes with 1 day bimbling around all the good roads for sure.

Planning this next week:

New amended route: clicky

Note: No motorways.

Plan is to head from Basildon to Matlock (apparently a biker mecca), head from there to the Peak District and camp for a day or so.
Head from the Peak District to Lake District (Wasdale Head) via snake pass.
Camp there for a few days seeing the sights etc etc.
Head to the Yorkshire Moors passing through the Yorkshire Dales, camp again for the final day or so.

Any routes/roads you think would be worth a ride let us know, we plan to ride a maximum of 200 miles a day (we are under it atm other than the ride home which is 250 odd from Yorkshire Moors).

The return leg is a bit grim down the A1, consider heading more SE from the Moors via Malton and Driffield over the Wolds (great roads) and across Humber Bridge - no Toll now - then take A15 via Lincoln.

If you're going past/through Hawes might be worth taking a detour just south to ride 'Beggermans Road'.

Matlock Bath is the "bike mecca" just down the road from Matlock
