Hey BCF

Just changed the front tyre on my SV for the first time.
Changed from some worn out bridgestones to a Pilot Road 2, loving the tread pattern Smile

Anyway it's only 20 miles old, but I'm finding it's very keen to tip, I don't mean knee down angles, but it doesn't take much encouragement to tip into a corner. Completely different kettle of fish to how the bike handled before the change.
It feels very light so I've already ensure the tyre pressure were correct.
Yet it still seems Confused "agile" when cornering, it's making me a little uneasy as it almost feels slippery.

Is this part of the scrub in period or simply a trait of the new tyre?
Thought I'd just get some opinions to put my mind at ease Thumbs Up

Cheers

Were your old tyres squared off much? You may find that because they are new, they are still rounded across their width rather than being flat and having a "shelf" almost which you have to tip the bike past in order to get it to lean in.

I'm finding this on my Thundercat which has now done about 5K in mostly straight lines, bar a few roundabouts.

I'm looking forward to new tyres.

^^could all be bollocks.

I can't honestly say I would of noticed if the tyre had "squared".
You could be right, It would explain why I can feel the difference so drastically.
Cheers James Thumbs Up

I found the PR2 to have an almost pointy profile compared to the more rounded shape of the Roadsmart IIs I'm currently using.

Enjoy the responsive steering and excellent grip. They last well too.

Its just the way the tyre is due to the profile as mentioned. I'm using the same tyres on my bandit and find them exactly the same

I noticed a change recently when I git a new rear tyre. Went from a Michellin sporty to a Bridgestone BT45 and it feels so much more kind of natural and smoother, is the best way I can describe it, when leaning the bike. Feels much nicer and confident going round twisties Very Happy

Changed my mind Embarassed
LOVE THESE TYRES! Laughing

Took my SV for a ride around Cornwall, covering over 100 miles in gorgeous sunshine. The new front was still eager to turn at the start of the ride, but either It got scrubbed in or I adjusted, everything just came together and felt planted.
Cheers everyone Thumbs Up

I found a bt023 gives way more precise low speed steering than the old sportmax, seems different tyres do have different handling characteristics you have to get used to.

Probably a bit of both mate Thumbs Up I know I was riding like a pussy on my first new tyres, partly due to the angle when leaning feeling different and partly due to being warned to go really easy for the first 100 miles or so until they're scrubbed in.

Feels so much better than my previous tyre though and no longer have the fear of it sliding out on me. It was one of the best days for riding here today weather wise too. In fact I had to tell myself off for riding like a tw@ afterwards Neutral Mr. Green

Lol I've been struggling to keep my front tyre in contact with the tarmac since the weather improved.

When I got a new set of tyres on, like you I thought wow, this bike leans loads. It's because the tyres are much rounder and you were used to having to push harder to get it to lean off the square. Just make sure you get used to it before you start pushing

Theres obviously a lot of difference in feel from tyre to tyre. Ive noticed in bike mags that when they review bikes theres always a ot of time devoted to the tyre chioce on test bikes. Its just one of those things that comes with biking. we do so much more to our tyres than a car does so its bound to be a bigger issue.

This, the problem is you ride your bike and you are just adjusting subconciously to the tyre squaring off, till you get to a point where you start to notice it has squared off....put new tyre on "OMG THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!111oneoneexclamationmarkone!"

It is all part and part of biking, I love new tyres as you forget how awesome they are Thumbs Up
