I've chucked this in random banter because it's probably not-that-bike-related.

I want to attach more stuff to the top of my (cheapo chinese) top box, so I can bungee light stuff to it.

I was thinking about putting some hooks on from a hardware shop, but I'd like to be able to bolt them on, and this isn't possible because they're self tapping threads. Ideally I'd put one of those givi racks on the top of the box, but I want to spend £5 not £50.

Any ideas what I can use?

IMHO your chat up line needs some work Wink

On topic in my search for cheap bike related stuff I came across this pack from Aldi (clicky link) available 5 May 2013. Priced at £3.69 so change from £5.

Ideally you might be better getting a proper rack rather than a Heath Robinson lash up.
Found this small one and this large one on GetGeared site (clicky links). £35 or £45 of your pennies though. So a little above the £5 burget. There's probably other suppliers out there.

In my defence at looking at Aldi site I did think the 20l rucksac might be useful for bikers as intended for cyclists.

Thumbs Up

If you are determined to make holes in it, make sure you put some epoxy or sealant around the edges of the holes to make it waterproof again!

I was going to suggest also putting some extra strips of flat flexible pieces of plastic (cut from microwave food cartons maybe) either side of the hole to strengthen the hole and stop it being made larger with wear. Also I guess larger washers would help increase the surface area so the nut doesn't bite into the plastic.
