OK new bike is in store. I go and collect it later on. My Firestorm will now have the insurance cancelled as it costs too much for a multi bike insurance policy (over £100 more) to keep the Storm insured for the month or so it will take to get the parts and install them. I could remove the Storm when I sell it but there is no guarantee that I will get any money back. So...

the bike is MOT'd and Taxed and stored off the road in a private parking area. Because she is not insured do I need to declare SORN?

Yes, otherwise stupid database sees it as an uninsured vehicle on the road.

Thanks Yaigi. It is as I suspected. Looked a bit of research up but was all conflicting as it usually is but the general consensus is yes.

Thumbs Up Karma

Yes.
It's up to you if you claim send the tax disk back for a refund.
Just adding that so there's a consensus.

Just SORNed it online. Apparently it starts from the begining of the month. Now to drag the bike around the back Laughing

Wont be reclaiming the tax. It is/was taxed until January and the new owner can keep it if its still valid.

Are you likely to use again? If so I can always put it on my policy for you so you don't have to go arsing around with sorn and cashing in tax disk.

Just saw your update lol. Asking DVLA to remove the SORN should apparently validate the current tax disk again, should you require it Thumbs Up

Cheers Pads. I could cash the Tax in but I'd rather sell it with the Tax for the new owner. Its the gentlemanly thing to do.

I wont be using the bike again. I pick the XJ6 up ASAP. (Mrs Pinky is at work and I have parental duties with baby satan or I would be away now)

If you SORN by post don't forget to post the SORN form from a post office and ask for the free proof of postage. Wink

Done it online. That way they cannot give me abuse. Just have to wait half an hour or so for the wife to get home and move the bike around the back to chain up out of the way off the road.

I'm not convinced that it's been "invalidated" in any way by declaring SORN.

Reading the legislation, the way it was imagined it would work was that VED would run out or you'd surrender the disk, and then declare SORN.

But there's no mechanism in place to stop us declaring SORN with VED still runninng, and nothing that I can see about "undeclaring" it either, certainly nothing statutory.

In short and strictly IMHO, SORN doesn't mean a damn thing as long as there's a VED disk on the vehicle.
