Was raining a little this morning so took it a little easy on the motorway given the spray and crap.

Just overtaken a huge lorry, and came to a car sitting in the middle lane. Didn't want to pull in directly in front of the lorry so kept behind the car, still at a fair distance until I had ample room to get in front of the lorry.

Car stayed in the middle lane... I see another lorry in the distance, probably 1/4 mile? By this point I'm level with the car in the middle lane, doing an indicated 70 on the Varadero, I don't want to slow down as its a hill and I'm going on so I wind the throttle on, the car is staying at a constant speed. I get atleast 3-4 car lengths in front, lorry is getting close now, say 30ft away, so indicate and pull out.

Get past the lorry and see blue lights behind me. Car sitting there in the middle lane was an undercover policeman. Rolling Eyes

Apparently I performed a dangerous maneuver despite leaving a huge gap. Gave me a bleating about it being wet and shit... so when queried as to why he was in the middle lane rather than moving over he went silent for a bit and said he is allowed too... I so wish I had the GoPro Laughing

Anyway, I got wet, soaked in fact. What would be his reason for pulling me over aside from being bored, it was not dangerous at all, anyone would have seen I left more than enough room, you could park a plane in the gap. Rolling Eyes

Pfffft, middle lane hoggers do my friggin head in, he had no need to be there, was just clearly retarded and had a chip on his shoulder about bikes Rolling Eyes Probably hoping he'd find something illegal once he pulled you.

As for dangerous manoeuvre then that's subjective. If you pulled out/in and there was a 2 second gap, which to me 2/3 car lengths is in the right ballpark, I fail to see that as dangerous. However, if wet then maybe 4 second gap advisable (but that's all it is, just advice).

Aside from being bored? He was a cunt. And he isn't "allowed" to sit in the middle lane.

The fuckers are getting worse, making their own versions of the highway code up as they go along now.

It was up a hill, no way would I have been speeding. It can hit the limiter up a hill at an indicated 80, which according to my Android GPS and Diablo super biker is a genuine 76. Laughing so either way, I'm unlikely to get in trouble for speeding. No overhead signs signalling lower speed limits.

Was more annoyed about getting wet. Laughing

I do wish you had had your camera. Recording him sitting in the middle lane and then saying he was 'allowed' would be a great thing to send into the local station I'm sure...

What a cNUT! Middle lane hoggers choke the motorway restricting the flow, making it a busier road behind. But he's allowed to do it? So much for the keep left rule then ...

In conclusion some police (and people in general) are cunts...

I forgot to take the rear L plate off my fiancée's bike one morning when I borrowed it to get to work down the M27. The police turned up and threatened her with arrest for "thrashing her moped down the motorway" while I was still at work during the day. Thankfully she knows how to stand up to people and told them that she doesn't own a moped and that it was her insured and licensed partner riding her 125cc motorcycle which is funnily enough over 50cc! Wife not putting out. Wife ran off with a biker. Failed his sergeant exams again. Got his lunch money stolen once too often. Daddy didn't love him enough.

What would be the reason for any decent, reasonable, emotionally stable person to go into Traffic and have to grow that ridiculous regulation 'tash?

The best we can do is laugh it off and piss on their ego parade.

Best one I ever had was 'Do you know you've got an indicator light out?'

To which I retorted, 'Nope, did you know you have a headlight out?'

Copper mumbled 'Just fix it please' and then shuffled off.

PWNED.

In the case of traffic cop do you really think his mother knew who the father was? Plus you're ruling out that any father figure may have 'loved' him a little too much. Or is that some other profession rather than cops?

On topic I echo the request for a diagram. Just don't nick an image from somewhere else and photoshop it.

If in the standard police issue Volvo then he should as the warning message gets damn annoying Wink

Mmm.
70 mph = 102 2/3 ft per sec....
So for the 2 sec rule that is 205 Ft .....

A 44 tonne lorry is around 61 ft. So you are looking at over 3 of these....
NOT 2 to 3 car lengths Embarassed

So if I'm sitting in lane 1 at 70mph and some retard is doing 65 in the middle, I MUST go to lane 3 to pass?

Undertaking is not illegal.

You just have to be careful that it doesn't become "dangerous driving".

I.E. You overtake someone at 90mph and you're looking at a speeding ticket from Mr Undercover. You undertake someone at 90mph and you're looking at a potential dangerous driving charge from Mr Undercover. Undertake someone within the speed limit and safely, perfectly legal.

Technically they are overtaking lanes. Sometimes i move from lane 1 to lane 3, pass them then swing past the front of them on my way back to lane 1.
