So I still have my mod 1 and mod 2 to complete. The mod 1 should be no problem, providing I don't smash the bike up the day before the test Rolling Eyes
I think passing the mod 2 is going to take quite a while as I still really need learn the roads and how to ride correctly. I'm not a car driver so it's still all really new to me. Now I'm really tempted to get a cheap 125 for over the summer, learn the roads better and pass the A2 in my own time. I only need to commute 60 miles 1 day a week, the rest is just for pleasure.
Am thinking of a Suzuki gn. I've ridden one before and it'ss by far the nicest 125 been on.
What advice would you guys give me?

Cheap 125, ride it until you pass, then upgrade. Unless you can afford to just take a quick course to pass then grab yourself a bigger bike. But 125s are a fun way to start, you have to plan your ride 10 steps ahead to get every mph out of the machine Very Happy

1. Buy Second hand YBR
2. Pass tests then sell for little to no loss
3. Buy big bike
4. Profit??

FWIW I needed a cheaper way to commute to work so I got a 125. I then practised on the 125 and did DAS course. After that I still held onto the 125 until I found the right next bike (also for commute).

So I'd say get the 125 as I'm sure someone Wink will come along and say time on a tiddler isn't wasted.

I could put 1k up actually for a 125. I just don't want to loose too much when it comes to selling or p/x.

Fair do's! For a little 125cc to learn on and on and some small commuting, I reckon an enduro style bike would be awesome. Do some light off roading.

I'd recommend a Cityfly, I've had 2, great bikes.

That any bike is better than no bike.

Thing is, if you're safe to ride a 125 solo on the likely test roads, why aren't you safe to do your mod 2 on a bigger, more visible, more capable bike? Thinking

Eh, it's a sound enough plan, I rode a 125 for a year and loved it. Stick to Japanese branded, although if you go mental, Lexmotos are at least easier to insure than other Zing Ping brands and parts supply is good. I wouldn't touch anything Korean because of the parts situation.

Just watch that you don't get stuffed on insurance. The cheapest 125 underwriters tend to only cover peds and 125s and when you do upgrade, you may find that your insurer won't switch the policy to your new bike. And won't refund you a penny on it. And you lose any partial NCD. And will be billed an admin fee for cancelling the 125 policy.

It's not right, but it's legal and it happens all the time. There's little point in asking a broker up front about it, it'll be down to the underwriter, and you'll just get lied to in order to close a sale anyway.

A notable exception (at the risk of sounding like I'm shilling) is eBike, who let you add, change and remove bikes willy-nilly and only charge the actual premium difference.

You might pay a bit more up front, but a lot less later. If you do swing that way, try this £40 off voucher link. (No, I'm not on commission, but I should be Wink )

I'm safe to ride by myself, just not up to full test standard yet. Safer than most people who pass cbt and get a bike the same week anyway.
