Well, I passed my CBT on a scooter the other week, went back to the training centre yesterday to have a crack at a geared bike, and spent today shopping for a bike.

And, here she is!
A Sinnis Trackstar. Yes, I know some of you will recoil in horror at a Chinese bike, but these beasties do seem to be getting a halfway decent rep.

Seems sound enough, but I'm sure the mileometer (or whatever the thing is called) is a bag of shite though...

Hello Joeval. Got one myself. Managed almost 10k km on her with no major issues. Thumbs Up

Theres actually 1 or 2 things I need to add to this now, but at 10k km, this review thing almost still stands. https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=3498620#3498620

Any questions, feel free to ask. Thumbs Up

Aha, I knew I'd spotted a nice review of one around here somewhere...
Anything in particular to watch out for on them?

Paint on the 2012 model was thin. (Yours is slightly different)

Sinnis have an awesome spam filter. It blocks everything. If you email them and don't get a reply, thats why. They are helpful on the phone and quite honourable if they cock up.

Frame welds are a touch messy. We can see that from here. Mr. Green

Chrome on mirrors isn't great. Slid my bike before xmas, and the chrome on the mirror arms deteriorated soooo quickly.

Check your indicators are not bent, if any are, Sinnis replace them for free (used to deliver to dealers in crates and sometimes bent an indicator along the way).

Get used to tightening your chain, sounds scary to a newbie, but its not hard! Honestly! Third time onwards you will be doing it in 5 minutes flat.

Parts availability is good, I can now vouch for this.

If you are going to rack up miles quickly, learn to service your bike yourself. I do about 1000 mile a month at a minimum. Servicing can be expensive with such a short service schedule.

Whats wrong with the speedometer by the way?

I would also suggest at some point, take the side panels off, and lift the seat. Read about changing spark plugs. When you physically see how simple this bike is and how accessible everything is, doing stuff to the bike on any level becomes a lot less daunting.

The speedo/mileometer is waaaay out... I took it for a ride this morning, which worked out at 14km by Google Maps. My speedo reckoned I did 171km!

14km? That is barely a ride! Smile Take it back to dealer and get it changed under warranty. Thumbs Up
