Heard bad things about Bennets
indeed, it shouldn't be allowed, i'm surprised they have refunded you and aren't charging you cancellation charge instead

I suppose I got off lightly, they said yeah we charged 330 or something like that. £310 is going into my bank within 10 working days .... and they're sending a cheque to refund the admin fees of £20.
I'm glad it's a full refund like but it could have been worse ____________________ I'm Sam; Northern, Ginger, Lover

Careful now, Rust v Abbey Life Assurance Co Ltd says that it might be, under some circumstances. To wit, if money has changed hands and a contract has been sent and not repudiated.
It's a bit fuzzy, but if it's noted before money changes hands (even in small print) then you're safer telling them explicitly not to renew.
Personally, I always switch away from any insurer who tries to auto-renew, or who doesn't provide a way to cancel online. If I have to call up, I know fine well it's so that I can get the hard sell from a commission monkey with retention targets to hit and a script to run through.
The conversations are nice and polite through the security bollocks, then typically go "Do not renew. No, stop there, we're not having a conversation about this. I've given a clear instruction to not renew, are you telling me that you're refusing to accept it? Are you refusing, yes or no? No? Then have you now accepted the instruction to not renew? Yes or no? Yes? Good. [click]" Then breeeathe, unclench.
Then they go on The List, which is a real, actual list of companies that I won't give money to. I wish more people would use one, and help put these hustlers out of business. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

FWIW it's worse if you fall back on the auto-renew due to other commitments and then between them and the bank they balls it up so you're not insured when you actually think you are.
It's far easier to do nothing, it's that they're relying on for this scam. Plus in the past you wouldn't think a old, trusted and professional institution like an insurance company would rip you off would you? People as a whole* are a lot wiser and more cynical after being shafted by the banks, another example of old, trusted and professional institutions.

I specifically demanded that they (Admiral) take the auto-renewal off my daughter's insurance and although they made a little bit of fuss they did it. They called me this year to renew and I did it right away. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

its hardly criminal fraud, its terms that people sign up to, these are made perfectly clear at the time, its in all the paperwork you get sent, its wrote on your certificate of insurance, and then its on your renewal notice, it takes 2 seconds to phone up and remove the auto renewal at the start of your policy, or at any time up to the renewal date....
Not that im saying its right, but people are given ample chance to not auto renew.. im amazed that people don't read through the terms of something as important as insurance. ____________________ ......................................................................... |

You didn't 'actually' get done.
You would have got done if you had no insurance cover.
I've not been 'done' I normally watch this shit so they can't 'do' me.
If they say auto-renew, which the documents normally state, then you only have to call or write and insist that they do not 'auto' fuck all when you receive your docs.

*sigh*. But if people did as you say they should do the auto-renewal scam would never work and they'd stop doing it (the cons would outweigh the pros).
Or do you think the auto-renewal price being anything up to three times more than the customer could get with a fresh quote is a genuine accident? Times hundreds of thousands of cases each year?
